Tom Niinimaki nominated for major Finnish sports award
Wednesday, November 23, 2016— EuroFC’s Tom Niinimaki has been nominated for a major sports award in Finland for his comeback fight in the main event of EuroFC 01 this past October.
He has been nominated alongside UFC’s Makwan Amirkhani in what is a ground breaking achievement for MMA in Finland.
Tom Niinimaki has been nominated for the ‘Rousing Sports Moment of 2016’ when he won his comeback fight in front of a home crowd in the main event of EuroFC 01.
The Urheilugaala is a Finnish sports award ceremony that highlights and celebrates some of the best moments and achievements of the nation’s athletes from the past year.
Tom Niinimaki (22-8-1) returned to competition for the first time in nearly two years to main event the very first European Fighting Challenge card that took place at the Metro Areena in Espoo, Finland this past October.
He took on Jonathan Brookins and beat the American by decision after three hard fought rounds in front of the biggest crowd ever assembled for an MMA event in Finland. This win meant that Niinimaki extended his unbeaten run in his native Finland to ten fights over the past ten years.
Makwan Amirkhani was also nominated for an award in the same category for securing his third straight win in the UFC. With both athletes nominated this marks a monumental year for MMA in Finland. To vote for Niinimaki go here. This achievement is a major win for MMA in Finland!
