UFC 201: Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley official to headline in Atlanta
Tuesday May 17, 2016— UFC 201 will take place on July 30, 2016 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The main card will air on pay-per-view while the prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The welterweight title is official and will take place on July’s UFC 201 event. Champ Robbie Lawler (27-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) will take on challenger Tyron Woodley (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC).
As we all remember, Lawler defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 181 by split decision to win the title. He’s defended the title twice, one at UFC 189 as he defeated Rory MacDonald via fifth-round TKO. The second time was at UFC 195 in January winning by split-decision over Carlos Condit.
Woodley has been on the sideline since he won by split-decision against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 183. Woodley was supposed to return back in October against Hendricks in a title eliminator but the bout was canceled since Hendricks was hospitalized due to a bad weight cut.
UFC 201 Fight Card (for now):
- Robbie Lawler vs Tyron Woodley
- Siyar Bahadurzada vs Claudio Silva
- Damien Brown vs Cesar Arzamendia
