UFC Fight Night Johnson Vs Bader Recap

Saturday January 30, 2016-– Live from Newark New Jersey the UFC put on a light heavyweight main event that all the MMA world has been itching to see, #2 ranked light heavyweight in the world Anthony Rumble Johnson takes on #4 ranked Ryan Darth Bader. Bader is on the biggest win streak of his career and is just one win away from a title shot that he deserves, Rumble Johnson was on a big win streak himself before he lost his title shot against current champion Daniel Cormier. Rumble like Bader won his last fight, so with both fighters at the top of the division the winner will be the real #1 contender. The co main event features a heavyweight banger between Josh Barnett and Ben Rothwell, and with the heavyweight division more wide open then it’s ever been before there is a lot riding on this fight. Super Sage Northcutt moves up in weight to keep his undefeated streak going and a true bantamweight banger between Luri Alcantara and Jimmie Rivera, and the debut of Randy Brown. A full slate of prelims to kick things off.

LET’S GET THINGS STARTED!!!!

The 1st fight to kick of the prelims is in the lightweight divison as Tony Martin (9-3) took on Felipe Olivieri (14-4), in the 3rd round Tony Martin finishes Olivieri by rear naked choke. Next up in the featherweight division Damon Jackson (9-1) took on Levan Makashvili (10-2), after 3 rounds the fight ends in a draw. Makashvili had a point taken away for an illegal eye poke that might have been the deciding point. Next up was a very anticipated debut in the welterweight division as undefeated prospect Randy Brown (6-0) took on Matt Dwyer (8-3), after going the distance the winner by unanimous decision and still undefeated Randy Brown. Next up in the featherweight division Alex Caceres (10-8) took on Masio Fullen (10-5), after going the distance Alex Caceres gets the unanimous decision. Next up in the welterweight division George Sullivan (17-4) took on Alexander Yakovlev (22-6-1), a 1st round KO finish for Alexander Yakovlev seals the deal. Next up in the flyweight division Dustin Ortiz (15-4) took on Wilson Reis (19-6), after going the distance the winner by unanimous decision Wilson Reis. Next up in the welterweight division Rafael Natal (20-6-1) took on Kevin Casey (9-3), in the 3rd round Rafael Natal gets the TKO finish. Next up in lightweight division Olivier Aubin-Mercier (8-1) took on Diego Ferreira (11-2), after going the distance the winner by unanimous decision Diego Ferreira. Next up in the featured prelim bout Tarec Saffiedine (15-4) took on Jake Ellenberger (30-10), after going the distance the winner by unanimous decision Tarec Saffiedine. The main card kicks off in the welterweight division as Super Sage Northcutt (7-0) looks to stay undefeated against Bryan Barberena (10-3), in the 2nd round Barberena gets the arm triangle submission victory. A true upset Sage was overwhelmed and maybe even tapped out a little early, but either way hell of a job by Bryan Bam Bam Barberena. Next up a bantamweight banger between Luri Alcantara (32-6) took on hometown boy Jimmie Rivera (18-1), both guys go the distance and the winner by unanimous decision Jimmie Rivera.

Co Main Event Heavyweight Division
#7 Ben Rothwell (35-9) Vs #8 Josh Barnett (34-7)

The co main event has so much on the line for a three round fight, with the all the news surrounding the heavyweight division this week Rothwell and Barnett are in a must win situation. The heavyweight division is more wide open then it has ever been before and a win for either of these warriors can earn them either a top 5 ranking or even a title shot. So much on the line, Barnett and Rothwell are prepared to tear down the house. The 1st round starts out with both fighters showing respect for each other’s skills not a lot of action, Rothwell throws a couple of jabs, and Barnett returns the favor. Both men continue to circle octagon, Rothwell turns on the gas a little bit with some combos. Rothwell got some bleeding and some swelling around the nose. As the 1st round comes to an end both men pretty much did the same thing exchanged a little bit but a lot of moving around. The 2nd round starts out with a lot of the same thing from the 1st round a lot of moving and small amount of punches exchanged. Barnett goes for a takedown and Rothwell backs up and slips in a guillotine choke hold on Barnett and that is it, Barnett taps out and that is all she wrote. A slow start for both fighters but with these two bombers it only take a second. Rothwell with a big win, nothing but good things coming.

Main Event Light Heavyweight Division
#2 Anthony Johnson (20-5) Vs #4 Ryan Bader (21-4)

The main event between two of the best fighters in the world, Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader have run through the light heavyweight division and now they are slated to settle who is the real number one contender in the octagon. Ryan Bader has the longest winning streak in the division, and Anthony Johnson has the most dangerous hands in all of MMA. These two men that respect each other but both know that the need this win to get to the promise land. With all of it on the line don’t blink, HERE WE GO! The 1st round starts out with Bader taking a quick shot, sprawled and defended by Johnson. Rumble takes Bader’s back, Bader try’s for the Kamura nut loses it and the ground and pound begins and Rumbles hard hands put Bader to sleep that’s all she wrote. Anthony Johnson gets the 1st round KO finish wow what a statement finish. Rumble proved that he is the #1 contender and is ready for whoever is champion.

At the end of the night a lot was learned as for rankings and contenders. But New Jersey came loud and proud and the UFC athletes responded with great fights. Ben Rothwell showed he’s ready to climb the rankings and Rumble Johnson showed he’s next for the light heavyweight title. Hometown boy Jimmie Rivera gets the win and Super Sage Northcutt showed that he is human. Good Night from Jersey!
