Co Main Event Middleweight Division
#9 Gegard Mousasi (37-6-2) Vs #10 Thales Leites (25-5)
The co main event featured two middlweigths that are in need of a win that could give them a chance to get a top 5 opponent. Gegard Mousasi was originally in the main event and now in the co main event is set to face Thales Leites who in his last fight had a hell of a fight against Michael Bisping. Both guys who need wins set to collide in the O2 arena. The 1st round starts out with a lot of action early on as Leites gets Mousasi in the clench. Leites is the aggressor early on but after a failed attempt at a throw Mousasi gets the takedown. Gegard wants nothing to do with Leites ground game so they stand back up. The 1st round comes to an end with a few exchanges, after the first round it’s fairly even. The 2nd round starts out with some exchanges, Mousasi is keeping Leites back with the strikes really stopping Leites from coming in. As the round goes on the exchanges are coming more and often, Mousasi is starting to get comfortable with landing some clean shots on Leites. The 2nd round comes to an end and its starting to seem that Mousasi is starting to run away with the fight. The 3rd round starts out with Mousasi landing a shot and stuffing another takedown. Mousasi works on the ground. Leites lands a couple of hard shots and really has found some confidence in his shots. Even with a late fury the wear has shown and Mousasi takes control again on the ground. As the fight comes to an end the fans are a little upset but Gegard Mousasi did what he had to do to win. After going the distance, the winner by unanimous decision Gegard Mousasi. A big win for Gegard, a tough loss for Leites but overall a hell of a banger.
Main Event Middleweight Division
#5 Anderson Silva (33-6) Vs #7 Michael Bisping (28-7)
The main event featured the return of a legend The Spider Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping. The Spider makes his return from suspension to face a man who is undefeated in the UK. Both men know just how big this fight is to everyone’s eye but they both also know that if they want a future title shot this fight is a must win situation. There is no doubt that Silva is a legend and one of the best, but Bisping is on the rise and has shown that he has what it takes to beat whoever is in his face. Two great fighters in front of the sold out O2 arena set to collide. The 1st round starts out with both fighters showing each other respect with little action at first. Bisping lands a couple of early shots followed by a couple of failed high leg kicks. Silva picked up the offense towards the end of the round but as the 1st came to an end a fury of shots by Bisping shakes Silva. As the round came to an end a laughing Silva showed that this fight is just getting started. The 2nd round starts out with both fighters exchanging blows and even a little back and forth taunting. The round continues on with Bisping being the aggressor with some countering from Silva but it’s been all Bisping so far. A hard shot by The Count rocks Silva and sends him to the ground Bisping starts the ground and pound but Silva plays some good defense to keep the fight from being stopped. Silva knows that he is down two rounds as the 3rd starts with Silva looking to be a little more loose but Bisping continues to be the aggressor. Silva seeming to find a little more confidence in himself, blocking a couple more leg kicks and even landing one of his own. The spider lands another shot to Bispings head. Bisping responds, Silva starts to turn on the gas but Bisping keeps finding a way to get out of it. The round comes to an end with Bisping losing his mouth peace. As both fighters exchange Herb Dean stops the fight but Silva lands a huge knee as the round comes to an end that floors Bisping. Silva thought the fight was over but the round was just over. After the mess gets cleaned up the fight continues and Bisping is clearly still shook up, but as the round continues Bisping lands a couple of shots that’s followed by a low blow. After Bisping gets his time the fight continues, Silva finds himself against the cage and Bisping is landing some hard shots but Silva seems to be where he wants to be and isn’t worried about moving. The fighters work their way back to the center and an eye poke stops the fight. A very intense 4th round so far. Bisping dripping with blood is still turning up the heat and landing but Silva lands some mean shots that is making the blood come out even more as the round comes to an end. The 5th round begins with Bisping having the edge but in all honesty it still is up in the air. Silva still looking fresh is landing with a fury of shots followed with a body kick. The fight gets stopped to clean the blood from Bisping. The fight resumes and Bisping is aggressing but a front leg kick lands for Silva and starts to turn it on Bisping covered in blood trying to find his way out but Silva seems to be closing in. Bisping finds a way out again and goes for a takedown but Silva stuffs it. The last-minute of the fight is crucial both fighters are bleeding and exchanging Silva goes for a spinning back elbow that misses. Bisping throws a right in return and that is the end of the fight.
One of the best fights I have ever seen and the decision will be a tough one no doubt. The winner by unanimous decision Michael The Count Bisping. Didn’t think it was a unanimous decision finish but do think Bisping deserved the win. A Hard-fought victory no doubt. Silva did enough to win but it was Bisping’s night.
A great night from the O2 arena, a lot of great fights but the main event was one of the best fights of all time. Two legends fought hard and after all the smack talking and a hard fight both fighters show the utmost respect towards one another two guys that fought hard show what the sport is all about, but in the end only one warrior could be named the victor.
