UFC Rotterdam Overeem vs. Arlovski Recap & Results

Sunday May 8, 2016 Live from Ahoy Rotterdam the heavyweights of the UFC took center stage for a big fight that has nothing but title contention surrounding the main event. The main event features two of the top heavyweight contenders in the world as Alistar Overeem took on Andrei Arlovski. With Overeem on the biggest win streak in his UFC career, most believe that a win in Rotterdam will shoot him straight to the next crack at the title. Arlovski was riding the KO train straight to another crack at the title, but a brutal KO defeat in his last fight has himself on the outside looking in. If Arlovski should lose to Overeem, his chance at another title shot might be gone for good. The main event featured two legends of MMA, from Strike Force to single digit UFC events, Overeem and Arlovski knows what it feels like to get to the top of the mountain but since their time as champions of their respective organizations they haven’t sniffed UFC gold. Now with just a win or two away from a potential title opportunity both guys are in need of a win. A lost could push them even further away for that chance at greatness. Overeem, Arlovski got to war. The 1st round starts out with Arlovski rushing Overeem lands some big shots but Overeem finds his way out. Overeem lands a knee and they go into the clench, Overeem lands a knee and they break. Overeem gets into the Muay Thai clench and lands some big Knees. Overeem throws Pitbull down and takes full mount. Some ground and pound but Overeem is on his feet, Arlovski lands an up kick and that’s the end of the 1st round. Very even through round 1 both guys landed big moves but Overeem landed the takedown late in the round. The 2nd round starts out with Arlovski throwing some volume keeping Overeem back. A nice combo landed by Overeem but Arlovski answers right back with a combo that moves Overeem back. Alistar moves in and hits a jump kick that connects clean with Arlovskis chin followed by a huge left hand that doesn’t miss, Pitbull goes down and the ground and pound begins and that was all she wrote. The winner by TKO Alistair Overeem. The biggest win in Alistair Overeem career as now he is next in line for a title shot. Tough loss for Arlovski, he looked good in the begging but just couldn’t handle the power of The Reem.
