VFC 51: LIVE FROM THE BUCCANEER ARENA AND ON UFC FIGHT PASS®
Omaha, Neb. – On February 19, 2016, Victory Fighting Championship invaded Des Moines with a professional mixed martial arts event and a UFC FIGHT PASS® live show that exceeded fan expectations in every way. Now, the Midwest’s leading MMA promotion will return for its second show at the Buccaneer Arena. Friday, June 24, Victory will present VFC 51 featuring dual title fights between middleweights Mike “Biggie” Rhodes and Rakim Cleveland and bantamweights Shawn West and Rob Emerson, along with a stacked card filled with action-packed fights from start to finish.
“I was floored by the reception Iowa gave to Victory Fighting Championship in February and I can’t wait to go back and experience another Victory event in the Bucs Arena,” said Ryan Stoddard, Victory FC owner and CEO. “Once again, the card will star a number of local athletes and all of their fights can be watched around the world in 176 countries live on UFC FIGHT PASS. I’m excited to see everyone on June 24th and to see these fights go down in Des Moines.”
Tickets for VFC 51 are on sale now through Cagetix.com and the Buccaneer Arena Ticket Office. Tickets start at just $20.00 (does not include surcharge and applicable service fees).
The main event of the evening pits the hot prospect Shawn “The Exception” West (12-6) against UFC and Bellator veteran Rob “The Saint” Emerson. West is a Miletich Fighting Systems prodigy and is riding a career high with seven consecutive wins. He has a tough scrap ahead in Emerson, who is an Ultimate Fighter® Season Five alumni who holds Octagon® wins over Manny Gamuryan, Philippe Nover, and Keita Nakamura. With 135-pound gold at stake, both athletes will be looking for a show-stopping, wow-moment win at VFC 51.
In the evening’s second championship bout, Mike “Biggie” Rhodes (9-4), the Waterloo, Iowa-native who trains at the respected Roufusport gym in Milwaukee will face off against Texas born and bred Rakim “The Boogeyman” Cleveland (14-7-1). With a trio of UFC® fights to his name, Rhodes is on a three-fight tear that includes a first round TKO and third round submission. “The Boogeyman” currently has four straight wins to his name with three coming by way of TKO/KO and one via first round submission. Since UFC signed Anthony Smith immediately after he won the Victory middleweight championship, Rhodes and Cleveland will battle on June 24th for the 185-pound strap.
In a featherweight feature bout and a compelling “Fight of the Night” candidate, VFC 51 presents Ramiro “Junior” Hernandez (17-8) vs. Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (17-3). Glenn closed out his last two bouts by way of KO/TKO and impressively has won 10 out of his last 11 fights. He faces a serious challenge in Hernandez, the former UFC fighter and Iowa local known for knockouts and an aggressive fighting style. With a win, Junior regains his ground in the 145 lb. division and Glenn primes himself for a call up to the UFC.
