SIGNS UNDEFEATED JARRED BROOKS – TWO MORE FIGHTS ANNOUNCED FOR WSOF-GC 2 JAPAN
Fight Scheduled for February 7 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan
LAS VEGAS, NV January 6, 2016— World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) has officially announced two more confirmed fights to an international star-studded event at WSOF-GC 2 Japan on February 7 in Tokyo.
Japan’s Junji “Sarumaru” Ito (13-6), a mainstay in the men’s strawweight division in Japan, will welcome USA’s Jarred Brooks (7-0) to his MMA strawweight debut. Ito recently fought for the Shooto Strawweight Title in November, losing a close decision to reigning undefeated champion, Yoshitaka Naito. Brooks, the current House of Fame Flyweight Champion, is currently riding an unprecedented 24-fight win streak, having won seventeen straight amateur fights before turning pro. Brooks was also a highly recruited wrestler and ranked #1 in the country coming out of high school in the 113-pound weight class. He closed his senior season 35-0 and as state wrestling champion in Indiana.
Japan’s Taichi Nakajima (10-5) and France’s Arnold “Silverback” Quero (9-4) will also square off in their WSOF-GC debuts in a bantamweight match up. Nakajima is coming off of a win against the previously unbeaten Dan Ige. Quero has knocked out his last four opponents and holds KO/TKO wins in eight of his nine career victories.
“The signing of Jarred Brooks is a great addition to our roster. In my opinion, he is one of the most unheralded fighters in the United States. The kid just does not know how to lose.” WSOF-GC Vice President of Operations and Matchmaker, Jason Lilly, continues, “He is a natural 115lb fighter and due to a lack of opportunities in the United States for 115lb males he has had to fight above his weight class and still continues to win. Hopefully we will be able to find him some top competition in the international market. Ito having just fought for a title in Shooto at 115lb will be a great test for him.”
The event is also headlined by a WSOF-GC World Heavyweight Title Match featuring Russia’s Evgeny Erokhin (13-4) vs Hungary’s Jani Istvan (11-1). Other matches previously confirmed include Akihiro Gono (34-19-8) vs Slovakia’s Mirsolav Strbak (12-5); Michihiro Omigawa (16-14-1) vs France’s Teddy Violet (10-1); and the return of Japanese Women’s MMA legend, Hisae Watanabe (19-6) vs South Korea’s Lee Ye-Ji (3-3).
