Saturday May 14, 2016— Live from the SAP Center in San Jose California Bellator MMA makes their return for a the main event that has nothing but title contention Surrounding it. To read the official results click here. King Mo will face the winner of the light heavyweight tournament from Dynamite 1 Phil Davis. Both men were originally set to face off in the finals of the Tournament back at Dynamite but due to injury Mo had to pull out. With champion liam McGeary Waiting for the winner, a finish for wither of these guys will shoot them into the #1 contender position. The Co Main Event features two welterweights that are also in title contention for their respective division as Cyborg Santos takes on Saad Awad. With both fighters having the ability to end the fight at any second this will be a fight you don’t want to miss. A lightweight was between Adam Piccolotti and Ray Wood and Andre Fialho will take on Rick Reger in a welterweight showdown.
A night full of fights and heavy hearts as a few weeks ago one of tonight headliners and top featherweight in the world Jordan Parsons tragically lost his life in a hit and run accident. All of prayers and condolences are with Jordan and his Family. Back to the action as a full slate of Prelims kicks us off!!
First prelim was in the featherweight division as Thomas Diagne (5-6) took on Mark Dickman (11-2), In the 3rd round Mark Dickman gets the TKO finish. Next up in a catchweight fight, Jamielene Nievara (4-1) took on Stephanie Frausto (5-6), in the 3rd round of a good back and forth fight Jamielene Nievara gets the TKO finish. Next up another catchweight fight as Jorge Acosta (1-2) takes on JD Hardwick (1-0) in his pro debut. In the 1st round a very impressive showing for JD Hardwick as he gets the first round submission finish by way of guillotine. Next in the welterweight division hometown fighter Sam Spengler (9-5) took on Doyle Childs (2-2), after going all 3 rounds the winner by unanimous decision Sam Spengler. Next up in the bantamweight division Josh San Diego (7-1) took on Jeremiah Labiano (9-4), after going the distance the winner by unanimous decision Josh San Diego. The prelims end, and the main card kicks off in the welterweight division as the undefeated Andre Fialho (8-0) took on Rick Reger (7-2), one-sided fright from start to finish, the winner by KO and still undefeated Andre Fidalho. Next up the lightweights take center stage as Adam Piccolotti (8-0) took on Ray Wood (7-2), in the 1st round the winner by rear naked choke Adam Piccolotti.
Co Main Event Welterweight Division
Cyborg Santos (21-17) Vs Saad Awad (19-7)
Co-main event featured to welterweight that are trying to do everything they can to make a run at the welterweight title, but with such a packed division if wither of these guys want to state their claim then they need an impressive finish. Santos and Awad set to go. The 1st round starts out with both fighters swinging wildly, Santos works into the clinch and gets the takedown. Santos works for side control and gets it. Awad tries for a triangle that Cyborg turns into a heel hook. Awad works out and mounts Cyborg from the side. Awad starts to rain down hammer fists, but Cyborg manages to keep himself in the fight. Awad keeps laying the hammers now the elbows that bust up Santos. More Elbows come and that’s all she wrote. The winner by TKO Saad Awad. A very impressive finish.
Main Event Light Heavyweight Division
Phil Davis (15-3) Vs King Mo (19-4)
The Main event was a fight that was supposed to happen back in September at Dynamite 1, but after a King Mo injury and Phil Davis winning the tournament they find themselves up against each other again. The winner of this fight will go on to face champion Liam McGeary for the light heavyweight title. There is so much on the line that neither fighter cannot afford to slip up. The tournament finals we all were itching to see is finally here. The 1st round starts out with both fighters staying at a distance. Mo coming with the early furry of strikes, a hard leg kick by Davis checked by Mo. Davis starting to trade with Mo but Mo responds with a few strikes of his own. Davis throws a kick that Mo catches then opens the door for Mo to lands some big shots of Phil. Davis goes for a takedown Mo Stuffs it and answers with a nice combo that lands. A couple of exchanges from both fighters and that’s the end of the 1st round. Mo had thrown and landed more strikes than Davis did but still a very close round. The 2nd starts begins with Davis landing a nice kick to the body, Davis continues to throw kicks that either get blocked or checked. Mo is having problems getting due to the volume of kicks being thrown. Mo comes in with a furry that sends Davis back against the cage. Mo goes for a takedown that gets stuffed. Both guys end the 2nd round with a few striking exchanges as the bell rings. The 2nd round was closer than the 1st, still a very close fight through two rounds. The 3rd round begins with Mo trying to close off the cage to land some more strikes. Mo lands a big right hand that sends Davis back, Mo throws a nice combo that lands and sends Davis into the clench. Davis works his way out and back to the center, Davis throws a comb that hits Mo right on the chin. Davis lands the big take down on a shook Mo. Davis goes right into side control then proceeds to take Mo’s back. Davis slips in the Komura but Mo manages to take control and get on top of Davis. They both get back to their feet and land shots. The 3rd comes to an end with a bunch of action that could send the round to either fighter. Davis landed the huge takedown and big shot that rocked Mo, but in return Mo managed to get out and work his way back to his feet and land a shot that knocked down Davis. At the end of the fight the winner by unanimous decision Phil Davis. Now the next title fight is set as champion Liam McGeary will defend his title against Phil Davis.
At the end of the night a new contender has been crowned and a fighter that tragically lost his life will be missed. What a night at Bellator 154. Good Night from San Jose California.
