This Saturday, Joe Smith Jr will be defending his WBO light Heavyweight Title from challenger, Steve Geffrard from the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.
Smith won the vacant TBO title last April in match against Russian boxer Maxim Vlasov. Smith was expected to defend his title from Callum Johnson but Johnson was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a positive test for COVID.
Geffrard only stepped in last week Smith (27-3-0) has more professional wins on his belt than Geffrard (18-2-0). And Geffard isn’t ranked by any of the four major boxing bodies. He fought once in 2021 and was named USA Boxing Male Athlete of the Year in 2010.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime, Geffrard said. “It’s crazy how boxing works. One moment I’m thinking about boxing on a local show, then the phone rings for a chance to fight for the WBO world title on ESPN. Unreal!”
