Brad Katona on his solitary pursuit for BRAVE CF gold: ‘This is for me’

The man they call “Superman” is currently on a tear through the Bantamweight ranks of BRAVE CF. Since his arrival at the fastest-growing promotion in the world, Brad Katona has improved to an 10-2 professional record, and now stands on the precipice of being a world champion. He faces Hamza Kooheji for the vacant Bantamweight world title at BRAVE CF 57, and is ready to fulfill what he believes is his destiny – even though he will have to do it in his opponent’s home turf.

”I don’t know how hostile the crowd will be with me, but I’m ready for anything. I’m prepared for anything, if they want to be hostile then I’m ready. I had a great time when I went to Bahrain last time for my first fight with BRAVE CF, I’m happy to be in Bahrain again”.

Brad currently fights out of the very well-known Straight Blast Gym (SBG) in Dublin, Ireland, and has been picking up the advice of John Kavanagh for his last few fights. The gym has been going through something of a slump recently, and Katona harbours hopes of being the one to break that losing streak, and bring gold back to SBG – although he admits his pursuit is ”almost a selfish one”.

”I love the saying that John Kavanagh has: ‘my opponent chooses how he loses’. For me, I’m going out there and give Hamza Kooheji problem after problem, until either time runs out, or he can’t figure out one problem. That’s when I go in for the finish. He’s a very serious fighter, but I feel as if I’m just a little better than him at everything”.

”This is almost a purely selfish pursuit, an MMA career. And I mean that in the best of ways. This is what I want. It’s so easy to say it’s for other people, but fighting, man, is tough. MMA is so difficult. The road I’ve been on has been so difficult. This is for me. It is for the team as well, but there’s no extra motivation there”.

BRAVE CF 57 takes place at the Khalifa Sport City Arena, on March 11th, and will have a triple title headliner, with Kooheji vs Katona serving as the main event, and the vacant Light Heavyweight and interim Lightweight crowns also on the line. The event will be a part of the 2022 edition of the BRAVE International Combat Week.
