Brendon Marotte talks debut at CES 48: “I’ve always had a passion for fighting!”

LINCOLN, RI. (Sat, January 13, 2018)– Former top New England amateur prospect Brendon Marotte checks in with FightBookMMA before he makes his highly anticipated professional MMA debut at CES 48 on Feb. 2 in Lincoln, RI.

How did you find MMA in the first place?

I found MMA about two or so years ago. I started by training in boxing – I never had any fights or anything. The UFC has been getting bigger and bigger over the last five or so years, I’d see it on TV and then slowly got into it from there.

Was it always your intention to turn professional, or is it just something that happened?

No, I’ve always had a passion for fighting. The first, second, and third amateur fights were just because I liked to fight. As things went on, I ended up with an amateur title shot and from there, I completely fell in love with it. I knew it’d be something I’d want to do for a living. We’ve been working toward that since then.

Does anything change after you’ve made your professional debut?

No, not really. I still have the same mindset going into fights. Like I said, I’ve been taking the last couple of fights very seriously because I want to go pro, but nothing is changing. It’s the same thing I did in the amateurs and I’m going to take that to the professionals. I’m going to one-by-one and work my way up. No one in that division scares me. Same attitude.

How exciting it is to work with UFC fighters like Calvin Kattar, Rob Font and Kyle Bochniak as they prepare for UFC 220?

It’s crazy. Like I said, I’ve been working with them a lot lately. It’s really cool. You get to see, firsthand, the amount of work these guys put into it. The work those guys put in is absolutely crazy. They eat, sleep, and breathe MMA all day, every day. It’s a privilege to train with them, honestly. As young as I am, being able to work with these guys at this level, it’s a great privilege.
