LOS ANGELES (Thur, August 17, 2017)– In advance of Christian “The Beast” Aguilera‘s scrap at CXF 9 on Saturday in Los Angeles, the hard-hitting Team Oyama fighter checked in with FightBookMMA.
With you now training at Team Oyama, who are some fighters from there who’ve already had an influence on you?
I like Alex Perez – he is very good. I like his work ethic. I like how he’s always in there fucking grinding. Any time I have questions or need help with anything – he’s there. Alex Reyes as well – he’s getting ready for a fight. There’s a lot of good bodies in there. Fernando Padilla is another solid guy I work out with every day. Between those guys, you get to see a bunch of different looks at camp – it’s not all the same thing.
What are your expectations for this weekend?
I’m going to knock him out. It’s just a matter of “when” and “how” – those are the only questions.
Does anything beat a knock out for you?
I’ll take whatever they give me – I’m not particular. The way I see it, he’s a wrestling-based fighter and he’s going to be trying to take me to the floor. So strategically, if I stop his one strength – it’s going to be to the feet and I have a clear advantage on the feet. For this fight in particular – we’ve fought twice already – what those tell me about this fight, there’s a lot of things factoring into this decision. I feel like it’s going to be quick – in the first half of the fight.
By the end of 2017, what are you hoping to accomplish?
I’m hoping for another fight, maybe two. To build back up to a winning record – but a significant winning record, like 4-1 or 5-1. From there I’m just hoping for a bigger fight in the new year – something bigger for January if nothing comes together in December.
