Coffee and Lemon for Weight Loss: Does It Really Work?

Almost all of us are looking for ways to lose weight on the internet. You’re probably looking for websites like Midss.org to help you better understand your health, and you’re looking for trends online. In fact, approximately 75% of Americans report drinking fat burning drinks and supplements such as PhenQ on a daily basis, as recommended by Bayer, R., MD, and its popularity stem primarily from its caffeine content, which stimulates the central nervous system and improves alertness and mood.

There are currently more lose weight trends on social media than we can possibly count or keep up with.  However, one strange trend appears to have gained far more traction than others. The TikTok sensation of squeezing and putting a lemon in your coffee to “Burn Belly Fat!” or “Drop Weight in 7 Days!” is what we’re talking about. TikTok with the hashtag #LemonCoffee has amassed millions of views. There are innumerable YouTube videos that pair contentious “before and after” photos with shots of somebody else squeezing a lemon into their morning coffee, then scowling into the camera as they drink it down.

Coffee with lemon may sound disgusting to those of us who chose a smoother, sweeter sip, including a caramel frappuccino or an almond milk mocha, but does it actually work? And, as some claim, could this lemon drink help with weight loss?

What Is Lemon Coffee?

The drink’s simple description — coffee with lemon — also serves as the ingredient list. The most common combination appears to be half a lemon juice squeezed into a standard cup of black coffee. The flavor isn’t particularly tasty, which may explain why a steaming cup of “lemon coffee” isn’t featured on menu boards at local cafes.

If you like curdled milk, don’t try adding lemon juice to your latte. Even so, in some cultures, sweetened iced coffee is associated with lemons. Mazagran, for example, is a drink that originated in Algeria nearly two centuries ago and is still popular in Portugal.

They’re high in vitamin C and antioxidants, as well as a variety of other beneficial plant compounds, which is why they’ve been used for centuries for medicinal purposes.

The coffee with lemon trend recommends combining 1 cup (240 mL) of coffee with the juice of 1 lemon. While some may consider it an unusual combination, others believe that the benefits outweigh the unusual flavor — though science may disagree.

This belief is widespread among various lemon-related trends, but neither lemon nor coffee can melt away fat. Also, the only way to lose excess fat is to consume fewer calories or burn more of them.

Why is Coffee and Lemon Good for Weight Loss?

Coffee and lemons have a variety of health benefits, owing primarily to their antioxidant content. There is, however, no proof to support the assertion that drinking coffee with lemon relieves diarrhea or causes excess weight to melt away.

Yes, if you replace a high-calorie morning beverage with unsweetened black coffee with lemon, you may lose weight. But, rather than ruining your morning ritual by forcing yourself to drink something you don’t like, follow this advice: Simply drink a tall glass of water as soon as you wake up to stay hydrated, followed by your regular, lemon-free cup of coffee. Remember that any health or weight loss hack that appears to be too quick, too simple, or too good to be true is probably not.

Is There Any Downside of Adding Lemon to Your Coffee?

People are constantly looking for that “one thing” that will make a difference in the number on the scale. We understand why these diet crazes are so popular. They’re made from natural ingredients found in our kitchens and have some health benefits. They appear to have the potential to work. Caffeine, especially in large amounts, can cause dizziness, heart palpitations, anxiety, stomach problems, and an elevated heart rate, among other side effects. Also, too much citrus can also cause stomach upset and heartburn.

Coffee is a popular beverage that has been extensively researched for its numerous health benefits, including its ability to boost energy levels, promote weight loss, improve athletic performance, and protect against chronic disease. Lemon, on the other hand, can help with fullness, hydration, and metabolism. However, there is no evidence or research to suggest that combining coffee and lemon help you lose weight. It is still best if you combine it with regular exercise and keep a close eye on your calorie intake.
