Combate Global results – USA vs. Ecuador

Miami, FL -United States’ Marcos Lloreda (14-8) extended his winning streak to three with a victory over Ecuador’s Javier “El Cholo” Basurto (23-10) in a main event dog fight in Combate Global’s first fight card of 2024 this past Saturday.

Also, Costa Rica’s Veronica Vargas (3-0) remained undefeated picking up a split decision victory over Spain’s Blanca Medina (1-2) and Brandon “El Prendido” Gonzalez defeated Venezuela’s Erik Villasmil (2-3) by way of rear naked choke at 3:40 in the second round.

Lloreda vs Basurto

Coming off two victories by way of decision, Lloreda aimed for a quick win to make a statement as one of the top welterweights in Combate Global. However, Basurto, who has won several titles in other promotions and took the fight on weeks’ notice, came in determined to make a name for himself.

Both men battled in the pocked for most of the fight trading jabs and straights. Lloreda said after the fight he probably was knocked out in the exchange as did his opponent.

But the difference was Lloreda’s takedown offense. The Freedom Fighter athlete landed three takedowns and the one that won him the fight was in the last round.

Lloreda has now fought seven times in la jaula.

Vargas vs Medina

Medina looked for the quick finish, but Vargas was not for the long trip to Miami only to comeback home with a defeat.

In the first round, Medina had the upper hand in the stand-up game and later taking the fight to the ground where she had the advantage. However, Vargas did enough to escape any dangerous waters.

In the middle of the second chapter of the fight, Vargas picked up the pace and flipped the script on Medina, who seemed to be losing gas.

On the ground, Vargas transitioned and obtained the mount position where she landed punches damaging her for.

Toward the middle of the third round, Medina just didn’t seem like her head was in the fight.

Vargas picked up the split decision victory.

Gonzalez vs Villasmil

Known for his excitement, Villasmil delivered incredible spinning kicks and intense over hand rights for the most of the first round, however, Gonzalez withstood the storm.

In the second round, Villasmil was a different fighter coming in less active and Mexico’s Gonzalez read him like a book.

He took down a less energetic Villasmil where he dominated and obtained the rear naked choke. An excited Gonzalez earned a victory on Mexican flag day.

Combate Global returns with more action in May.
