Conor McGregor reveals original plan to face Nate Diaz in UFC comeback fight, replaced by Michael Chandler

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has confirmed that his original plan was to face longtime rival Nate Diaz in his upcoming comeback fight, before being replaced by Michael Chandler.
McGregor is set to make his return to the octagon after nearly two years, with the fight against Chandler taking place as part of the UFC’s latest series of The Ultimate Fighter. Although the Irishman is happy with the replacement, he has reiterated that a trilogy fight with Diaz is still a priority for him in the future. McGregor and Diaz have a storied rivalry, having fought twice in 2016, with each claiming a victory.
The Irishman, known for his larger-than-life personality both in and out of the octagon, also spoke about his mental and physical preparations for the upcoming fight with Chandler.
The former UFC champion has been focused on his training and conditioning ahead of his return to the octagon, working hard to regain his strength and speed after the injury that sidelined him for so long.
“I’m feeling stronger and faster than ever before. I’ve been training every day, focusing on my strength and conditioning, my grappling, and my striking,” he said. “I’ve been working with some of the best coaches in the world, and I’m confident in my abilities. I’m ready to take on whoever they put in front of me.”

While the Chandler fight may not have been his first choice, McGregor is known for his willingness to take on all comers and his love of the sport. Fans of the Irishman will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating his return to the octagon, regardless of who his opponent may be.
As always, McGregor’s return to the UFC promises to be one of the biggest events in combat sports this year. With his larger-than-life personality, his electrifying fighting style, and his never-say-die attitude, he remains one of the biggest draws in the world of mixed martial arts.
