Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen argue over MMA Guru’s post on X. Guru is cooking a fitting response “To this blasphemy.”

The most polarizing and controversial YouTube content creator, MMA Guru’s post on “X” over USA wrestling credentials is getting attention from UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen.
At the UFC 312 co-main event, current strawweight champion Zhang Weili defeated Tatiana Suarez via unanimous decision, displaying total domination inside the octagon. What made this fight more interesting was Weili being a +240 underdog against Suarez.
Because of Tatiana Suarez’s wrestling accolades, many believed that her path to victory would be untroubled. However, Zhang Weili defended 14 out of 15 takedowns and even cracked her opponent on the feet, proving every doubter wrong for picking against her.
After Weili’s victory, popular content creator MMA Guru, who has a massive fan following and is known for being a harsh critic, put out a post on the social media platform X, mentioning that he’s not going to trust USA wrestling credentials anymore. He also called out UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, both renowned for having wrestling backgrounds, for gaslighting him into believing that the wrestlers are nothing but “Monsters” in MMA.
On the recent episode of Good Guy / Bad Guy, DC and Chael Sonnen addressed this issue, in which they sort of had a disagreement over MMA Guru’s post –
“In the UFC, right now, we don’t have an NCAA wrestler in the heavyweight class. I didn’t say an Olympian, I didn’t say a gold medalist, I didn’t say an All-American. We don’t have a heavyweight. When Stipe retired, that was the last of the heavyweights, prior to that, there was a guy named Daniel Cormier. We don’t have a single NCAA wrestler not just in the top 10, in the top 15. We don’t have one under contract under Ultimate Fighting Championship.” – Chael Sonnen said.
According to West Linn, Oregon’s Gangster, some of the top wrestlers in America, like Jordan Borrows, Kyle Dake, and David Taylor, could’ve entered the UFC, but they didn’t choose to do so, because they recognize that MMA is a complete sport and only wrestling is not enough for surviving inside the octagon.
“It is such a complete style now, it’s not something that you can get through college, and picking up some boxing lessons on the side and you’re good enough for the octagon. That true at some point, but if Guru is arguing about these hard gritty and tough wrestlers isn’t enough, he wins this argument.” – Sonnen Added.
Daniel Cormier on the other hand doesn’t agree with MMA Guru or Chael Sonnen’s arguments and presents a different view on this issue. The former two-division UFC champion argued that some of the current UFC champions like Jon Jones, Ilia Topuria, Islam Makhachev, Merab Dvalishvili, and Belal Muhammad are from wrestling backgrounds. So, proper wrestling can work in MMA.
“He is wrong Chael! Just because the best guys aren’t coming anymore doesn’t mean that the wrestling doesn’t work! We’re still living in a world, where Jon Jones’s background is wrestling, sure he was a junior college national champion, but he’s a wrestler. At 135, Islam Makhachev’s background is at Combat Sambo and what else? Wrestling! Ila Topuria’s background is at wrestling, these guys are wrestlers!” – DC said.
Talking about the UFC 312 co-main event, DC believes Tatiana Suarez didn’t make some adjustments which caused her to lose the fight against Zhang Weili who is also learning the actual wrestling in detail, and not just only MMA wrestling.
“The Hickman Brothers who are in Muay-Thai Bangtao, those guys are really good coaches and they taught Weili how to wrestle offensively. That’s the key Chael! I had a crazy argument with Michael Bisping about this the other day. I go, I believe if you want to wrestle effectively inside the octagon, you gotta learn how to actually wrestle. Zhang Weili is learning wrestling, not just MMA wrestling ” – DC said.
“I think MMA Guru is wrong! Sure Tatiana struggled, but again, there was some simple things she could’ve done to change what was happening. She kept shooting double legs, you cannot shoot double legs anymore. You gotta shoot double legs and switch off to a single-leg if you wanna take people down.”
That boy MMA Guru, famously known for his debunking and response videos is currently in the process of making a reply video to counter Daniel Cormier’s assessments. He also commented on the video – “Tomorrow… I respond to this blasphemy.”
