Donovan Salvato looking to end his fight fast at CFC 8 against CFC Lightweight Champ Jaime Vasquez

Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Johnathan Ivey’s Cage Fighting Championships is starting 2020 with HUGE BANG! The promotion is ready and will be hosting CFC 8. The event will take place on March 7th in Murfreesboro Tennessee at the MID TEN EXPO.

In the main event, will see Donovan Salvato make his return to the CFC cage. He’s somewhat of a legend in the brief history of the CFC promotion. Salvato kinda stormed onto the seen at CFC 2 winning by submission in the first round over veteran George Byard. He returned at CFC 3 to capture the welterweight title by submitting veteran Steve Stover in the first round.

At CFC 4 he defended his title against his toughest opponent to date Caleb Miller and successfully defended his title when Miller was not able to answer the bell for the 3rd round. 3 fights in the CFC and 3 finishes. Then something unexpected happened. Salvato disappeared from the sport of MMA for almost 2 years. He returns to fight for the lightweight championship on March 7th at CFC 8 against CFC lightweight champion Jaime Vasquez. Check out the conversation he had with FightBook MMA below.

Donovan we have heard a lot about you from the people running the CFC. You are the former CFC welterweight champion. You never lost the title, you vacated it and left the sport of MMA for almost 2 years. Can you tell us what led to your decision to leave and what you’ve been doing during your hiatus from the sport?

I will only take fights that elevate me in this sport and none at that time made sense. During my hiatus, I developed a plan outside of fighting to own a farm and become self-sufficient off my land.

While you have been gone, there has been one fighter that has been having a ton of success in the CFC. Former CFC featherweight champion and current CFC lightweight champion Jaime Vasquez. You are kinda being thrown back into the fire immediately without any warm up fights. Do you worry about ring rust at all and how do you feel about the match up with Vasquez?

This is one of the fights I’ve asked for and Ivey was able to make it happen. I don’t need to waste time on fights of less-caliber. I’ve been away from the cage for more than a year and within that year I have become a more complete mixed martial artist and you will see this March 7th.

Vasquez has dominated every fight he has had in the CFC possibly not losing a single round in any of his fights against Kyle Tetley, Jaysen Baker, Tommy Scrivner and Alexander Schenk. All of those fights being title fights. How do you think you compare to his past opponents in the CFC?

I’m a problem that hasn’t been solved. So at the risk of being too blunt, there is no comparison.

Many people believe that Donovan Salvato vs Jaime Vasquez is a fight between the two best fighters ever to compete in the CFC. Give us your prediction on the fight and what we can expect from you in your return to the sport?

I’ve heard a few predictions, from his camp as well as mine, that the fight will end in the 2nd round. I hope, for their sake, they aren’t placing bets because it will end in the 1st!

Donovan it’s been a pleasure talking with you before your title fight March 7th. Do you have anyone you would like to show some love to before we go? And best of luck to you at CFC 8!

There are too many people to thank. They get my love in person! Thank you for your time brother.
