Former two-time undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez has been charged with attempted, premeditated murder, amongst other charges, following an alleged shooting in Morgan Hill, California on Monday, where the Salinas native was arrested by responding officers.

Velasquez, 39, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to an alleged shooting which took place at 3:14 p.m. local time on Monday, last, in which a male was struck “at least once”, requiring transportation to a medical facility where his condition was described as “non-life-threatening”.

Velasquez, a staple of American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and booked into the Santa Clara Main Jial without bail, ahead of a court appearance on Wednesday at noon local time.

However, further details regarding the incident surfaced in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with multiple reports detailing how Velasquez had shot in the direction of a 43-year-old male, Harry Eugene Goularte, who had been accused recently of molesting a close relative of Velasquez at a home-daycare facility “100 times”.

Goularte, who lives at the facility along with his stepfather and mother, was arraigned on Friday, three days before the incident, where he was granted supervised release upon his return to court in April next.

The Santa Clara district attorney’s office confirmed that Velasquez rammed a Chevy Silverado with his Ford F-240 truck containing three occupants, including Goularte, his stepfather, and mother, as well as firing a .40 handgun “multiple times” at the vehicle, shooting Goularte’s stepfather, who is expected to recover from his injuries.

“The sad tragedy is that Mr. Velasquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck,” District attorney, Jeff Rosen said in a press release. “This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Velasquez, who has seen his arraignment postponed until March 7. at 9 p.m. local time, has been charged with one count of attempted, premeditated murder, shooting at a motor vehicle, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of assault with a firearm, and a count of carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.
