Fresno’s Albert Gonzales eyes KO in hometown bout Saturday
Fresno, Calif. (Tue, March 13, 2018)– Before Albert Gonzales tries to improve to 4-1 at 559 Fights 63 on Saturday in his hometown of Fresno, Calif., the heavy-hitting middleweight prospect spoke with FightBookMMA about his rough background and his future in MMA.
How did you find MMA to begin with?
When I was younger, I got in a lot of trouble on the streets, and I always loved the feeling of fighting. I was going down the wrong path, but I did a whole 180 when I found MMA. Now I’ve devoted my life to the sport.
How much has your life changed since you found MMA?
Everything about my life has changed, man. I come from a rough background, being shot nine times, and I’ve been through a lot in my life. MMA has changed everything, and I’m extremely grateful for it.
When you see the support from your fans, what does that mean to you?
It means the world to me, man — it means a lot. Like I said, I come from a rough background; to get this kind of support for doing something positive means everything. This sport is everything to me, man.
How do you see Saturday’s fight playing out?
I’m going for the knockout. I’ve been putting a lot of work in, and I have a feeling that I’m going to get the job done this weekend.
How would you like to be remembered as a fighter?
I always tell my family that, 10 years from now, I want my whole family around the table talking about the great things that we’ve accomplished in this sport. I think a lot about my future and my legacy; I want to be remembered as someone who put everything they had into the sport and was a positive role model in the community.
