JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng – combining strengths, partnerships, and focus points to create raised opportunities for their individual athlete portfolios, Heavy Duty Fight Management (HDFM) and Scuffle Sports Management are merging.
With a specific reputation for its strategy to identify exceptional talent with the mindset of “quality over quantity” and with a purpose of grooming such talent to reach the top tiers, it is no surprise that HDFM has relationships with global MMA promotions such as UFC, Bellator, KSW, Brave CF, and Cage Warriors. Its current and former globally represented athlete portfolio includes UFC stars Marc Diakiese, Alksandar Rakic, former UFC & KSW World Champion Scott Askham, Bellator athletes Robert Whiteford, Gavin Hughes, Lee Chadwick as well as UAE Warriors athlete Dakota Ditcheva.
Aside from promoting athletes, matchmaking, negotiations of bout and sponsorship agreements, overseeing blood tests and medicals as well as generally communicating on behalf of its athletes, HDFM goes the extra mile to provide support for athletes’ successful roadmaps. This is displayed through providing athletes with access to dieticians and nutritionists as well as using media and fighter analysis platforms to carve out peripherally based next best steps for athletes.
“We are extremely excited to finally be announcing the merger with Scuffle. This is the result of many months of hard work, bringing two teams of highly motivated professionals together who share a vision and who are determined to make a difference to the lives & careers of athletes from the African continent as well as the Middle East. These are very exciting times for us as a management company We see Africa and the Middle East as regions of enormous opportunity for identifying undiscovered talent through the partnership with Scuffle” said Carl Messen, Founder of HDFM.
Scuffle Sports Management’s vision of bringing Africa to the world and the world to Africa is entrenched through its representation of showcased talents such as Nkosi Ndebele, Brave CF Bantamweight as well as Africa’s number one ranked amateur, Eliezer Kubanza, who is competing in the flagship documentary series Scuffle Search. Scuffle as a company is always pushing to find and bring Africa’s talent to the forefront by assisting with the development of the sport through partnerships with IMMAF Africa as well as bringing Brave CF to South Africa in 2018 and 2019. Such initiatives provide a multitude of African athletes the opportunity to compete on a global stage, many of which have received global fight contracts.
Scuffle Sports Management has also expanded into the Middle East with an aim to take the same passion to assist with the development of athletes from this region. A milestone was already made recently with Scuffle athlete Mohammed Fakhreddine becoming the first double champion at Brave CF adding to his double champion status at Desert Force.
“Scuffle has never veered away from its initial focus which has been to develop MMA from the ground up through identifying exceptional talent in difficult circumstances. Merging with HDFM is the next natural step for us given its standing and purpose. By bringing together two teams with similar passion and outlook we are capable of achieving more. This merger is set to provide a greater platform for current and future athletes” said Jason van Schalkwyk, CEO Scuffle Sports Management.
The announcement of the merger comes at an exciting time given two fights this coming weekend – Marc Diakiese at UFC Fight Night and Dakota Ditcheva at UAE Warriors who now have not one but two merged corners backing them.
