When you think of a prototypical Light Heavyweight Julius Anglickas (6-1) is just th great reach, and completely shredded up. The St. Charles MMA product has reeled off five straight wins with his last gaining him the LFA Light Heavyweight Championship against a previously unbeaten Clayton York by way of rear naked choke late in the second round.
Fast forward a bit and the opportunity that all fighters strive for is on his door step with that being a feature bout on Dana White’s Contender Series next month for a chance at a UFC contract in the balance. The Lithuanian is taking the bright lights in stride. Originally slated for early July the show was set back a couple of weeks due to the holiday, the bout is now set for early August.
Although a bad ass inside the cage Anglickas is as humble and respectful as they come outside of the cage, even in the biggest fight camp of his young career he manages to find time to coach and corner a few young amateurs. He will look to follow former teammate Luis Pena’s steps and make a huge splash inside the UFC octagon but must first go through Steven Thompson protégé Karl Reed (6-1), both fighters only blemish on their record is to Cameron Olson. “The Techno Viking” is the type of fighter that is a coach’s dream, very well rounded everywhere with very good hands. With Karl Reed’s funky style one would assume the come forward with a purpose mentality.
FightBook MMA caught up with SCMMA head coach mike Rogers to ask about Anglickas. “He’s a great teammate. Work ethic off the charts, loyalty, and willingness to learn.”
