When Ricky Hatton threw in the towel in 2012, he admitted that he no longer had what it takes to continue at the elite level. The ex- two-weight world champion suffered a ninth-round stoppage against Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester with casino usa watching.
Hatton returned after almost three years of inactivity. He rescinded his decision to retire 14 months earlier. Senchenko, a year older with only one defeat on his record had proven more than a match for Hatton in front of 20,000 fans at the Manchester Arena.
“I needed one more fight to see if I had still got it – and I haven’t,” he said. “I couldn’t have done any better. “A fighter knows and I know it isn’t there anymore. I have got to be a man and say it is the end of Ricky Hatton.”
But yet again, Hatton, now 43, could be making a sensational return after 10 years. Sky Sports say that at the former light-welterweight champion is ‘in talks’ over a comeback boxing bout against Marco Antonio Barrera.
It would likely be an exhibition bout as opposed to a fully sanctioned one. His rumoured opponent, Barrera, is 48 and hasn’t fought professionally since 2011.
Back in September, Hatton spoke to Boxing News TV about coming out of retirement. “Yeah it has been mentioned, there has been a few little chats here and there with certain people.”
“I am definitely up for it, I am all for it but nobody wants to see their heroes come back and get knocked out. Legacies are tarnished when that happens.”
“But to see your heroes get involved with an exhibition bout with bigger gloves and shorter rounds and watch all the fighters do their thing again for one final time with no one getting hurt, can only be a good thing.”
Hatton, who love real money pokies online, boasts an impressive resume with a record of 45-3 as a pro. He is fondly remembered for his fights with the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. In 2005, he became The Ring and IBF light-welterweight champion.
