Before Peru’s Maria Paula Buzaglo tries to climb to 2-0 as a pro this week for Combate Americas, the fast-rising 19-year-old Team Oyama fighter spoke with FightBook MMA.
How did you find MMA to begin with?
I started training MMA after I won the youth amateur muay Thai world championship. I saw an MMA fight on TV and started to train the next week. I fell in love with it right away and haven’t stopped loving it yet (laughs)!
What do you love most about MMA?
I love to fight! I never get stressed for a fight. Everything I do, I do it with passion and love. When I get in the cage, I just have fun.
Is there anything you don’t like about the sport?
I don’t like when people cut too much weight. I think that can be really harmful to your health, which I don’t agree with, but ultimately it depends on the individual.
How do you feel about what you’ve accomplished so far?
I’m really happy and excited to be where I am today. I’ve been training really hard, making a lot of sacrifices, and giving my 100-percent every day, every training session. I’m so happy with where I am — and it’s just the beginning!
Where would you like to be five years from today?
I will be a world champion!
