Miguel Angel Torres Coming Out Of Retirement

INDIANA (Wed, January 17, 2018)– The 36-year-old Torres announced his retirement in April 2017, Torres successfully defended his bantamweight title in WEC three times before a loss to Brian Bowles at WEC 42. At WEC 47 Torres faced and was ultimately defeated by Joseph Benavidez, via guillotine choke midway in the second round. Torres then faced Charlie Valencia on September 30, 2010 at WEC 51 winning the fight via submission in the second round. He then went on to the UFC accumulating a 2-4 record with his last loss via TKO to Michael McDonald at UFC 145 in the first round.

Back in May of 2014 it was announced that he signed a one night contract debut at GLORY 17 Los Angeles on June 21st at The Forum in Inglewood, California. He was going to participate in a four man tournament to compete against Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai, Gabriel Varga and Shane Oblonsky at Glory 17 in the Featherweight contender tournament.

This fight never happened as Torres had to withdraw from this event and no word on why he did. Later in September 24, 2016 he finished his career at United Combat League: Havoc in Hammond 3 in Hammond, Indiana as he went against Lloyd Carter and won via Submission Guillotine Choke.

Fast forward to today, the former WEC bantamweight champion and UFC fighter stated that he is coming out of retirement and plans to fight in April 2018 at a regional show in Indiana. He’s back in the gym training and getting his body back in shape. What we do know is that he has stated that he will never return to the UFC even if they called him today since there’s just too much bad blood and too much history with the promotion.

After this fight in Indiana what’s next? Maybe he can fight overseas or in Bellator or Combate Americas a promotion that’s a Hispanic-targeted promotion which was created by co-creator of the UFC Campbell McLaren. No matter where Torres fights, his fans will remain faithful and follow him and support him.
