OKTAGON 53 Results: Dalisda makes promotional history, Dulatov dominates

Europe’s leading MMA promotion took over Oberhausen, Germany, this past Saturday night (February 10) and staged a thrilling event which proved once again that OKTAGON MMA is booming in the country. 10,000 passionate fans filled Rudolf Weber-Arena for OKTAGON 53 and enjoyed an evening of action where history was made in the headliner and a new German star was born during the co-main.

Katharina Dalisda (11-3) defended her strawweight title for the first time in the main event by defeating Eva Dourthe (8-6) once again in their rematch. The first four rounds were close and it was all to play for going into the final frame but it was ‘Tigress’ who dug deep, securing the victory by unanimous decision. With that win, she becomes the most successful female history in OKTAGON MMA history and remains undefeated in the organisation at 5-0.

In the co-headliner, Islam Dulatov (10-1) well and truly delivered in his anticipated promotional debut by dominating Ioannis Palaiologos (20-13-1) on the way to a round one TKO victory. The German welterweight hot prospect utilised his outstanding striking to gradually chip away at his adversary before landing a devastating knee to the sternum. Dulatov received the biggest crowd reaction of the night and has the potential to be an absolute superstar in the country. The division has been put on notice!

Miroslav Brož (17-3-1) and Tom Crosby (8-4-1) put on a tremendous fight in their welterweight feature bout that had it all. Both men exchanged some big shots on the feet and shared some entertaining grappling exchanges, but it was Brož who earned a very tight split decision victory. After the contest, it was announced that the Czech veteran would face the biggest name in German MMA, Christian Eckerlin, at OKTAGON 57 inside the iconic Festhalle Frankfurt on May 4.

In an important middleweight matchup, David Zawada (19-9) successfully marked his return to OKTAGON MMA by locking up a spectacular heel hook against Hojat Khajevand (7-4) with just seconds remaining in the final round. The stoppage was even more impressive considering the fact that Zawada was down on all judges’ scorecards so had to secure a finish in order to win the fight. This displayed once again why our new open scoring system is improving the sporting experience for fighters and fans due to the transparency involved.

Elsewhere on the card, Ivica Trušček (43-39) submitted Cihad Akipa (6-2) at welterweight and Jan Malach (16-14) rallied to stop Luka Milidragović (3-1) due to strikes, also in the welterweight division. In another fight in the same weight class, Emir-Can Al (1-0) had an impressive professional debut, finishing Tomáš Votava (0-1) with some heavy ground and pound.
