A bantamweight meeting of title hopefuls has been finalized for UFC 245 on December 14th. as talented boxer Petr Yan draws former WEC featherweight best Urijah ‘The California Kid’ Faber.
Yan, who is so far undefeated in the promotion, scored a unanimous decision over Jimmie Rivera in his last showing, and has made his title ambitions well known since the victory, but first, must topple the recently returning Urijah Faber. Long time Team Alpha MMA coach Faber, snapped a two year hiatus in July, cementing his contender status at 135 pounds via an opening minute knockout of Ricky Simon in a Sacramento homecoming,
26-year-old Dudinka native Yan has displayed some crisp hands during his five fight stint in just over a year with the organization, and briefly called for an interim bantamweight title tilt against fellow contender Aljamain Sterling soon after his UFC 238 victory over the aforementioned Rivera. Mixed-martial-arts pioneer Faber on the other hand, is yet to achieve champion status during his eight years with the promotion, despite earning a whopping four championship bouts. The one-time WEC 145 pound best has a quite eye-catching resume to boot, with victories coming against the likes of Dominick Cruz, Bibiano Fernandes, Jens Pulver, Brian Bowles, Raphael Assuncao and Takeya Mizugaki to name a few.
UFC 245 takes place from the T-Mobile Arena on December 14th. with a bad blooded welterweight title clash between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington sealed as the main event, while a bantamweight title tilt rematch between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie is also set to place. In our co-main event, a 145-pound championship meeting between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski also features in a three title showing.
Welterweight veteran Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown ends a two-year hiatus from the Octagon in December, as he meets wily grappler Ben Saunders, and Jessica Eye looks to return to winning ways after her shocking championship head kick knockout loss to Valentina Shevchenko, as she meets the talented finisher, Viviane ‘Vivi’ Araújo. Former welterweight champion and the still dangerous puncher Robbie Lawler makes a quick turnaround at the event, as he searches for an opponent replacement after originally penned opponent Santiago Ponzinibbio was forced from the matchup due to a staph infection.
A meeting of the surging Irene Aldana and title hopeful Ketlen Vieira has also been finalized for the stacked event. A high stakes flyweight pairing has also been confirmed for the card, as Brandon Moreno replaces the since cut Sergio Pettis, and takes on the up and coming Kai Kara-France.
