Portmarnock native Ian Machado Garry books Octagon return against Kenan Song at UFC 285

Undefeated Portmarnock native, Ian Machado Garry is set for his fourth Octagon appearance on March 5. on the undercard of UFC 285 in Las Vegas, Nevada – confirming a bout against Chinese finisher, Kenan Song on March 5. The pay-per-view event will take place at the T-Mobile Arena.

Garry, 25, will look to improve to 11-0 as a professional and lodge his fourth consecutive victory under the UFC banner, having most recently handed Gabriel Green a unanimous decision loss back in July during International Fight Week at UFC 276.

As for Tangshan native, Song, the 32-year-old has been sidelined since a knockout loss to Max Griffin at UFC Vegas 22 back in March 2021. 

Garry confirmed his matchup against Chinese fighter, Song on his official Twitter account, maintaining he had requested a bout with recent UFC Fight Night Orlando main card feature, Bryan Barberena. 

“Everybody knows I want (Bryan) Barberena – I’m not getting him… yet,” Ian Garry tweeted. “I’m taking out Kennan (sic) Song first. Here’s some real life footage of my conversation with Sean Shelby [UFC matchmaker]… see you March 4th.” 

A former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, Garry, a trainee at Kill Cliff FC under the tutelage of head coach, Henri Hooft, debuted in the UFC back in November 2021 against Jordan Williams, scoring a first round buzzer-beating knockout win.

In the time since, Garry has landed back-to-back decision triumphs over both Darian Weeks, and the aforenoted, Green to move to 10-0 as a professional. 

UFC 285 takes place on March 5. – with a vacant heavyweight title fight between former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, and former interim heavyweight kingpin, Ciryl Gane set to take main event honors. An undisputed flyweight title fight between Valetina Shevchenko, and Alexa Grasso has also been booked for the event.
