In a quickfire turnaround for reigning featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski will feature at UFC 276 on June 2. during International Fight Week – matching with former champion, the #1 ranked contender, Max Holloway in a title trilogy fight. The event will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2-0 against former champion, Holloway in the pair’s series of fights, New South Wales tactician, Volkanovski managed to clinch the undisputed featherweight title from the Hawaiin at UFC 245 in December 2019 with a decision win.
In an immediate title rematch at UFC 251 in July 2020 in Abu Dhabi, UAE – Volkanovski managed to successfully defend the belt with a close, split decision win.
Most recently, Vokanovski headlined UFC 273 against Chan Sung Jung, stopping the South Korean striker with a fifth round standing knockout win.
Holloway, on the other hand, headlined a UFC Apex facility event against Yair Rodriguez last November in his most recent Octagon walk – retaining his status as number one contender with a unanimous judging win. Ariel Helwani was first to report Volkanovski’s return against Holloway on June 2. at UFC 276.
Rebounding from his title loss to Volkanovski on ‘Fight Island’ in January of last year, Holloway turned in a memorable striking performance en route to a unanimous decision win over Calvin Kattar.
Before his title defense against Jung last month in Jacksonville, Florida – Volkanovski managed to defeat common-foe, Brian Ortega in a unanimous decision win at UFC 266 last September.
