After an almost eight-year stay in Coconut Creek, Florida under the banner of American Top Team – reigning UFC featherweight champion, Amanda ‘The Lioness’ Nunes has parted ways with the facility, with plans in place to form her own team in the ‘Sunshine State’.

Per an initial report by Raphael Marinho from Combate, Bahia native, Nunes, along with her partner and strawweight contender, Nina Nunes will part ways with American Top Team, with plans in place to create and establish her own team in Florida.

The Brazilian most recently co-headlined UFC 269 in December, where she suffered a staggering second round rear-naked choke loss against bantamweight title challenger, Julianna Pena. The loss came as one of the biggest betting upset defeats in the history of the organization, as well as snapping Nunes’ 12-fight winning spree which extended beyond six years, and knocked her two-weight division champion status.

Before her late 2014 move to American Top Team, Nunes had plyed her trade at MMA Masters for two years – also in the ‘Sunshine State’. Training under head coaches, Cesar Carneiro, and Daniel Valverde, Nunes dropped a September 2014 ground strikes loss to Cat Zingano – spelling the end of her tenure with the Hialeah facility.

Since her move to American Top Team, Nunes had embarked on a stunning 12-1 run with the team, securing both undisputed bantamweight and featherweight titles – which included victories over the likes of Valentina Shevchenko, Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, Germaine de Randamie, Felicia Spencer, and Megan Anderson.

Whilst Nunes has yet to book her next Octagon outing following last month’s shocking upset loss, the 33-year-old has welcomed an immediate bantamweight championship rematch against the above mentioned Pena.
