For the second week running, a UFC Vegas event headliner has received quite a significant reshuffle.

Streaking Kings MMA staple, Beneil Dariush has reportedly suffered an ankle injury in the run-up to his UFC Vegas 49 main event bout on February 26. against Islam Makhachev, resulting in the cancellation of their potential title-eliminator at 155lbs.

And as a result, as per an initial report from ESPN MMA reporter Brett Okamoto, Makhachev, who currently sits at #4 in the official lightweight rankings, is now set to headline the event against recent UFC 271 winner and main card opener, Bobby Green in a five round, 160lbs headlining tilt.

Making a quickfire turnaround to headline a UFC event for the first time since his transition to the organization back in February 2013, Green enters the bout against Makhachev off the back of a dominant unanimous decision win against Nasrat Haqparast in the first main card bout of UFC 271 last weekend.

For Makhachev, the Dagestan finisher turned in his third consecutive submission win back in October, stopping Dan Hooker with a first round kimura in Abu Dhabi, UAE at UFC 267.

Before his victory over Haqparast last weekend, Green snapped a two-fight losing run with a first round knockout win over veteran fellow lightweight division mainstay, Al Iaquinta with a first round stoppage at UFC 268 back in November at Madison Square Garden. The knockout victory came as Green’s tenth professionally, following eight prior submission wins.

Prior to his win over City Kickboxing striker, Hooker, Makhachev headlined for the first time in the UFC back in July of last year, stopping Thiago Moises with a fourth round rear-naked choke which came after a third round arm-triangle win over Drew Dober in March last.
