Report: Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung targeted for UFC headliner on October 17th.

A potential featherweight title-eliminator between perennial contenders, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung, and Brian ‘T-City’ Ortega is currently targeted for a reworked meeting, to main event at a UFC Fight Night event on October 17th. – with a venue and location yet to be determined by the promotion.

Jung and Ortega – who are both attempting to secure their second title challenge in the promotion, were initially scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night Busan in December, until a knee injury ruled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player, Ortega from the contest. Jung would on to headline his home country event, meeting Frankie Edgar on short-notice in an opening-frame knockout win.

California native, Ortega is expected to make his first Octagon appearance since his featherweight title challenge defeat to former champion, Max Holloway at UFC 231 in December of 2018. News of the reworked tie was initially reported by Milenio reporter, Carlos Contreras Legaspi.

Since his return from conscription in his native South Korea – ‘The Korean Zombie’ has secured a 3-1 record to earn the #4 rank at 145-pounds. In his return, Jung headlined UFC Fight Night Houston back in February of 2017, scoring a first-round knockout over Dennis Bermudez. The following November, in a hugely exciting bout with Yair Rodríguez – Jung dropped a final second knockout loss, in a main event he was winning on all three judge’s scorecards.

Since the stunning defeat, the 33-year-old has managed stoppages of Renato Moicano, and the aforementioned, Edgar. At UFC 163 in August of 2013, Jung entered his first promotional title tilt Рlosing via penultimate round knockout to Jos̩ Aldo on enemy territory in Brazil.

Rising to Octagon prominence back in 2018 – 29-year-old challenger, Ortega has displayed some of the most dangerous grappling chaps in recent featherweight division history. The Rener Gracie black belt unsuccessfully challenger for the 145-pound title from Holloway in Ontario – snapping a fourteen fight undefeated run in the process.

In highlight organizational performances, the Los Angelas based contender has finished Diego Branḍo, Clay Guida, the aforementioned Moicano, Cub Swanson, and in an outing which earned him a title shot, became the first competitor in history to finish Edgar Рwith a first-frame uppercut barrage.

Ortega and musician, Jay Park were involved in an altercation at UFC 248 – where the Californian is alleged to have slapped Park, who had translated an interview from Jung, in which he suggested Ortega has “ducked” the South Korean in their initial December booking. Ortega would later apologise to Park on his official Twitter account, before calling for a rescheduling with Jung.
