Report – Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier earmarked to headline UFC 269 on December 11th.

The lightweight title bout between current division kingpin, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira, and surging former interim champion, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier is closing in on its landing pad — with UFC 269 on December 11. earmarked as a housing event, with the pair reportedly verbally agreeing to a clash at that pay-per-view event. The showcase is currently expected to land at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Oliveira, the most prolific grappler in the history of the UFC, landed the undisputed lightweight title in the main event of UFC 262 back in May with a second round knockout victory over former Bellator best, Michael Chandler in a vacant title showdown.
Undefeated in three outings since failing to unify the lightweight titles against Khabib Nurmagomedov back at UFC 242 — Poirier headlined UFC 264 in July, taking home a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO triumph over three-time opponent and former duel-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor — who suffered a fractured tibia. Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz from MMA Fighting were first to report the news of the targeted headlining bout.
In a later report this evening from MMA Junkie reporter, Farah Hannoun — the reporter detailed how the projected December 11. showdown would be a suitable date for defending champion, Oliveira, however, a meeting is scheduled between both parties in the coming days in order to nail down an official fight.
In the midst of a stunning division-best nine-fight undefeated run, Sao Paulo submission specialist, Oliveira became the most prolific grappler in promotional history with a March 2020 guillotine stoppage over Kevin Lee.
Earning a vacant title fight against Chandler, Oliveira took co-headlining honours at UFC 256 back in December, outclassing former interim titleholder, Tony Ferguson en route to a clear-cut unanimous decision triumph.
Rebounding from his third round rear-naked choke loss to Khabib as well as successful hip surgery, Poirier managed to score a successful Octagon return at UFC Vegas 4 in June of last year — besting Dan Hooker over the course of five rounds.
Prior to July’s doctor’s stoppage victory over McGregor — American Top Team standout, Poirier became the first to stop the Crumlin native with strikes in professional mixed martial arts.
