Report – Dricus du Plessis vs. Chris Curtis booked for UFC 273 on April 9.

An eye-catching middleweight showdown between streaking South African talent, Dricus du Plessis, and recent promotional newcomer, Chris Curtis has been added to UFC 273 on April 9. Whilst not official at the time of publication, the event is targeted to take place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Improving to 16-2 as a professional back in July at UFC 264, du Plessis stopped recent UFC 270 feature, Trevin Giles with a second round knockout victory. 

Storied veteran middleweight, Curtis turned in another highlight-reel finish back in December at UFC Vegas 44 – stopping Brendan Allen with a second round knockout triumph. MMA Fighting reporter, Mike Heck was first to report the news of du Plessis’ return against Curtis.

Debuting in the UFC back in October 2020 on ‘Fight Island’, du Plessis, a former EFC middleweight champion, stopped now promotional-alum, Markus Perez with an eye-catching first round knockout win. 

Scoring seven knockout wins to go with a further nine other submission successes, du Plessis holds a second round knockout win over current two-weight KSW champion, Roberto Soldic – stopping the Croat kickboxer to win the KSW welterweight crown back in April 2018. 

du Plessis was slated to return at UFC 269 back in December against fellow middleweight finisher, Andre Muniz, who an undisclosed injury forced him from proceedings. 

Debuting in the UFC on short notice back in November at Madison Square Garden, veteran finisher, Curtis stunningly stopped Phil Hawes with a rallying first round knockout at UFC 268. 

UFC 273 is slated to take place on April 9. – with an undisputed featherweight title fight between reigning champion, Alexander Volkanovski, and the #4 ranked, Chan Sung Jung booked to headline the event.

In the event’s co-headliner, a bantamweight title rematch between champion, Aljamain Sterling, and interim champion, Petr Yan is set.
