With Brazilian grappler, Claudio Silva forced from his UFC London clash with the returning, Gunnar Nelson on March 19. – the Icelandic grappling ace will now draw Takashi Sato at The O2 Arena.

Nelson, who recently put pen to paper on a new deal with the organization, has been sidelined since a short-notice UFC Fight Night Copenhagen outing against one-time title challenger, Gilbert Burns back in September 2019, where he dropped a unanimous decision loss.

Also attempting to return to the winner’s enclosure, four-fight Octagon feature, Sato last featured against Miguel Baeza in November 2020 – dropping an arm-triangle defeat. ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report Nelson’s rebooking against Sato.

17-5-1 as a professional, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Nelson looks to snap a two-fight losing run in his return to The O2 Arena – having most recently featured in London a UFC Fight Night event in March 2019, suffering a split decision loss to the surging #3 ranked, Leon Edwards.

The Cage Rage and BAMMA alum has competed in the UFC since September 2012, establishing an impressive 8-5 promotional record. In organizational victories, the Mjolnir Gym staple has managed to land wins over the likes of recent UFC 272 feature, Alex Oliveira, Alan Jouban, Albert Tumenov, Brandon Thatch, and Zak Cummings to name a few.

For Tokyo native, Sato, the four-fight UFC veteran has so far managed to land an even 2-2 record in the promotion since his bow back in April 2019. Debuting with a knockout win over Ben Saunders, Sato would then drop a loss to upcoming headliner, Belal Muhammad – with a knockout win over Jason Witt sandwiched between his loss to Baeza. 16-4 as a professional, Sato has managed an eye-catching 11 career knockout wins.

UFC London is slated to take place on March 19. – with a heavyweight bout between contenders, Alexander Volkov and Tom Aspinall is currently expected to take main event honors, however, the bout remains in a fluid state due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and the invading Russia.
