Following a Bellator 270 victory over the veteran, Daniel Weichel in November of last year, one-time featherweight title challenger, Pedro Carvalho is set to welcome former two-weight WWFC champion, Khasan Askhabov to the promotion on May 6. at Bellator Paris from the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France.

Portugal native, Carvalho most recently featured on the main card of Bellator 270 back in November at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland – scoring an impressive unanimous decision victory over the storied German veteran.

For Askhabov, the 23-2 Chechnya-born promotional newcomer enters his bow against Carvalho off the back of a second round rear-naked choke win over Cliff Wright at iKON Fighting Federation 1 in 2020, with the latter falling to 12-13 as a professional as a result. News of Carvalho’s pairing against Askhabov was first reported by Red Fury MMA on Twitter.

Before his win over Weichel, Carvalho, a staple of Straight Blast Gym, suffered a second round ground strikes knockout loss to prospect, Jay Jay Wilson, which came off the back of a one-sided first round knockout loss to former featherweight titleholder, Patricio Pitbull.

12-5 as a professional, Carvalho began his tenure under the Scott Coker-led Bellator banner back in 2018, initially enjoying an impressive run of four successive victories.

Debuting with a split decision win over Daniel Crawford, Carvalho then submitted Luca Vitali, stopped Derek Campos with strikes, and then landed an opening round submission win over Sam Sicilia to set up his featherweight World Grand Prix clash with Pitbull.

27-year-old Grozny native, Askhabov has managed to chalk up an impressive 12 separate submission victories across his professional career, to land with six further knockout wins.

In notable career wins, Askhabov has bested the likes of Mikhail Odintsov, Dragan Pesic, as well as journeyman, Hyram Rodrigues, the above mentioned, Wright, as well as Damien Lapilus. In just two career losses, Askhabov has dropped a submission defeat to UFC alum, Hermes Franca, and a 2019 unanimous decision loss to Elismar Lima.

Bellator Paris is slated to take place on May 6. with a heavyweight title rematch between reigning champion, Ryan Bader, and Cheick Kongo booked to headline. UFC alum and recent Bellator debutante, Yoel Romero is slated to co-headline the event against veteran Suriname-born striker, Melvin Manhoef.
