Sunday January 24, 2016— Robert Cozmo Consulmagno is one of nicest guys that you will ever meet, a veteran and a 3rd degree purple belt in Jiu Jitsu Cozmo has shown that he can accomplish anything that he puts his mind to. There is more to the man than meets the eye, Robert has been diagnosed with PTSD and Bipolar disorder. Having come up with a very rough child hood Consulmagno never let his downfalls stop him from achieving his dreams. Many have heard Cozmos story but this article is going to show you a different side of a man with a huge heart that will stop at nothing to get his story out.
When you think of the word Bipolar you think of an illness that doesn’t seem like that big of a deal due to the fact that there aren’t commercials and campaigns on how to cure it or even the effects. But it’s more serious than you think and its affected people from Hollywood all the way to the octagon. Stars like Carrie Fisher and Mauro Ranallo. Mauro recently became the new WWE Smackdown announcer and this was a long time coming a childhood dream of Ranallo. Below is a video of him expressing how greatfull he is about this opportunity to work with the WWE.
These celebrities are Bipolar and have started to spread the word across the nation, and that is what Cozmo is trying do. Spreading the world any way that he can from his upcoming documentary to social media to interviews with his bipolar peers. Cozmo will be on a podcast that Bas Rutten and Mauro Ranallo started.
He’s going to be talking to them about his mission. To listen to the show you can click here.
Speaking of Bas, Bas “El Guapo” Rutten was a UFC Heavyweight Champion, a three-time King of Pancrase world champion, and finished his career on a 22 fight unbeaten streak (21 wins, 1 draw). On AXS TV’s Inside MMA, UFC president Dana White was a special guest on the program, and Dana had a special message for Rutten. During his segment, White told Rutten about the UFC’s International Fight Week and Dana told Bas that he’d be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame that weekend.

Check out the video below courtesy of oc87 recovery diaries where Cozmo reflects about his painful memories and how determined he is to create something positive from his life’s battles.
Robert is trying to show the world that bipolar disease is as serious as any other disease. Robert has stated to me that his goal is to stop the stigma, and with fighters like the ones that he told me about being too afraid to come out. This just goes to show that there isn’t enough public awareness to show these fighters, hey its ok to show who you are, and that even if you are bipolar its treatable and that others around you are struggling with the same things you are.
Robert did an interview with FightbookMMA.Com about his past and everything that he went through, but when we talked, he expressed to me that he wanted to show his mission not his past. There’s always two sides to every story and with the little tidbit that I got from him on how his father hung himself inside of a mental institute, his father issues are what stem to his issues now. Mauro Ranallo has been very outspoken about being bipolar, how the disease really gave him struggles in his career, and the more exposure that the disease gets the more people will understand, and others that are struggling will come out and get help.
Consulmagno is a top-level purple belt that has been #1 in the world, outside of training Cozmo is also a DJ. Every chance that Robert can get to make his life as normal as possible he doesn’t miss out. With also having a sleeping disorder Cozmo can’t sleep unless he is listening to music, as he explained how he copes I started to think of all the ways that he thrives to make himself better that no matter how many obstacles are in his way he won’t give up that he will keep fighting the fight. All that Cozmo is doing he has stated its his mission, that he wants more than an article to spread the word. Robert wants to go on talk shows radio shows the more interviews the better. The more people see that a man with all the credentials and the crazy past that Cozmo has had he always finds a way to bounce back and keep fighting. Cozmo has reached out and spoken to Ranallo about his disease and they agreed to try to work together the best they can to band together and spread the word. Robert told me that his dream is to not only meet the people of the world that have been diagnosed but to talk about the disease.
When I first talked with Robert he was a ball of fire and always constantly moving at 100 miles an hour. The information that he shared with me wasn’t just info it was heart, every fighter needs determination to succeed in every fight their in and there is no doubt in my mind that Consulmagno has it all. Robert also is in the works of having his biography done by NJ Productions, and with their help and everyone else’s help we can spread the word about this disease. All the stars and all the fighters and even the man or women sitting to your right or left our goal is to help them. This is Roberts dream and he will do whatever it takes to come true, I wrote this article to show that we have to do whatever we can to stop this disease and show others you’re not alone. Fighters like Bas Rutten, Mike Tyson and Cris Cyborg are standing behind Cozmos mission.
Here is a tweet from Bas about Cozmos collection:
