Ross Houston Released From Cage Warriors, Vacates Welterweight Title

Now former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, Ross Houston is approaching new pastures. On Tuesday evening, the Scotland native was released by the promotion – and subsequently vacated the 170-pound championship, as he begins to negotiate with another major organization. The news of Houston’s release and vacating was first reported by MMA Fighting’s, Peter Carroll.

Houston, who holds an undefeated professional record of 8-0, has been widely tipped to sign with a major promotion since the beginning of the year – and has come to an agreement with Cage Warriors, to do so. The Inverness-born grappler last competed at Cage Warriors 106 in June of last year, in an exciting, eventual ‘No Contest’ with recent UFC signee, Nicolas Dalby. Houston’s welterweight championship will become spoils on May 16th. at Cage Warriors Belfast, with news breaking earlier this evening of rising prospect, Rhys McKee’s involvement in the vacant title match. As of yet, an opponent for McKee has yet to be confirmed by the organization.

In a statement from Cage Warriors president, Graham Boylan, the promotional head-honcho confirmed the news with MMA Fighting.

“Ross Houston & Cages Warriors have decided to part ways by mutual agreement. Ross Houston has thanked Cage Warriors for the work Cage Warriors has done in getting his career to this stage. Ross is now a free agent.“

Expect the world’s leading promotion’s to flock around Houston in an attempt to gain his signature to a contract. Carroll also confirmed with Houston’s management, Black Panther Sports, that an April date for Houston’s next outing is currently targeted.
