SFT 27 MMA recap and results from Brazil

SAO PAULO, Brazil – Rising MMA star Manoel “Manumito” Sousa, the 2020 SFT Fighter of the Year, captured the vacant SFT MMA Lightweight Championship in the SFT 27 main event this past Thursday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Sousa was losing the first round to the more experienced Brendo “The Monster” Bispo (17-5-0), who was riding a 6-fight win streak going into the fight, until “Manumito” unloaded a barrage of punches for a technical knockout win with only 4-seconds remaining in the opening round.

The 23-year-old Sousa (7-0-0) extended his is undefeated streak in combat sports to 24 straight victories in kickboxing, 18 by knockout, to go along with his seventh pro MMA win, each in SFT competition and ending prior to the conclusion of the second round.

In the co-featured event, Mayra Cantuaria (9-3-1) was crowned the SFT MMA Female Flyweight Champion, after she registered a technical knockout of Patricia “Paty” Borges (4-5-0) in the opening round. Cantuaria (pictured below) has fought in the traditional Japanese event, Pacrase, and she is rated among the top five in Brazilian National rankings. Borges had her 2-fight win streak snapped.

Brazilian featherweight Thiago “Manchinha” Silva (20-9-0) dominated fellow countryman Bruno “Beirutel” Tavares (13-6-1) for a unanimous decision, welterweight Alex “Canguru” Sandro (11-3-0) defeated Luis “Hulk” Fernando (18-7-0) by way of a highly disputed split decision, and Marcos “Maraja” Rodrigues (17-5-0) swept all three rounds for a unanimous decision over Estabill Amato.

A star was born in the female bantamweight division as Luana Santos (pictured below), who was undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter, turned in a superlative pro debut, knocking out Marjarie “Brutal” Barragan (1-1-0) midway through the first round.

Also fighting on the undercard, bantamweight Manoel Lima “Aranha” Silva (5-5-0) took a split decision versus Deja Moura (5-3-0), flyweight Marciano Ferreira (6-1-0) stopped Antonio “Piaui” Rodrigues (9-3-0) in the opening round, and Apollo “Deus Da Guerra” Gomes (6-0-0) won a unanimous decision over Fernando Henrique (3-1-0) in a battle of previously unbeaten bantamweight prospects.

Two SFT Xtreme matches were held as well. SFT Xtreme is an entertaining fight that allows striking, kicking and knees, fighters wear 4-ounce gloves, and clinching and fighting on the mat is prohibited.

Welterweight Kaven “Mexicano” Felipe (1-0-0) knocked out Cicero Evangelista (1-1-0) in the first round. The “Mexicano” reclamation project has officially started. Felipe was returning to SFT. He first came to SFT with a 4-1-0 MMA record of 4-1 and a very promising career. Kaven won his first SFT fight but lost the next two. The reason was he had no focus, partying the night before his fights. All his fights where entertaining to watch, even winning a bonus for fight of the night. Albeit a loss. Felipe then took two years off, fathered a baby, cleaned himself up, and he then wanted to return to MMA fighting. SFT officials felt that he’d do better at Xtreme. He did look good in his Xtreme debut, never focused more, and in top shape. “SFT president Dave Gorman added, “He had an amazing win. He has the potential to be the most dominating Xtreme fighter.”

In the other SFT Xtreme match, flyweight Joao “Samurai” Eskilo (1-0-0) overcame a losing first round to stop Richard “Coelho” Silva (0-1-0) in round two.
