Monday November 9, 2015– Two-division world champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr. and former world champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, collided in a 12-round all-Southern California welterweight showdown this past weekend. Bradley vs. Rios will took place November 7, at the Thomas & Mack Center, located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. and was televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Bradley looked absolutely fantastic that night by using his superior speed and footwork to control the fight. In round 9, Bradley landed body shots and put Rios down to end the fight. This would be Bradley’s first stoppage since 2011, and this would the first time that Rios has ever been stopped.
CompuBox stats: Bradley connected with 254 of 570 punches, for a 45 percent connect rate; he landed 33 percent of his jabs and 54 percent of the 325 power punches he threw.
CompuBox stats: Rios just landed 81 punches all night: 18 percent of those he threw.
At the Post-fight, Brandon Rios announced his retirement from boxing, saying that the time had come to hang up his gloves.
“He hit me with a perfect body shot up the middle and followed up with an equally good shot up the side,” he said. “The better man won. It is what it is. Maybe eight months of inactivity played a part. But I’m making no excuses. I’m done.”
“The plan was to take a piece every round,” said Bradley’s new trainer Teddy Atlas, working with his new charge for the first time. “Don’t be greedy. Be like a piranha.”
Afterward, Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum was ecstatic:
“That’s the best Bradley I’ve ever seen,” he enthused – and suddenly, the prospect of a possible third fight with Manny Pacquiao didn’t seem quite as improbable as it had barely an hour earlier.
In the HBO opener was a showdown between Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Romulo Koasicha for the WBO Featherweight Title. In this fight we saw Vasyl Lomachenko completely dominate Romulo Koasicha and had full control of every single round. In round 10, he landed a nice shot to the body, Koasicha went down, and the ref stopped the fight. Lomachenko landed 334 overall punches to Koasichas 75. The power punch stat was 213 at 66% landed to Koasichas 55 at only 16%.
