The event drew an announced attendance of 14,269 fans for a live gate of $1.4 million. UFC officials announced the figures after the event.
UFC on ESPN 1: Ngannou vs. Velasquez took place on Sunday February 17, 2019 at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The main card and prelims aired on ESPN while the early prelims aired on ESPN+.
In the main event, Francis Ngannou went against Cain Velasquez who returned after his longest layoff of his career. It didn’t take long for Ngannou to defeat Velasquez as he was able to defeat him via knockout (punches) in the first round.
In the co-feature, Paul Felder took on James Vick in a lightweight bout. This was a back and forth fight that went all three rounds. In the end Felder defeated Vick via unanimous decision with the scores of 29-28, 30-27, 30-27.
Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena, Kron Gracie and Luke Sanders each earned an extra $50k bonuses for their performances. Luque and Barberena earned the “Fight of the Night” and Gracie and Sanders each won “Performance of the Night.” UFC officials announced the winners after the event.
Fighters from the event took home their Reebok Sponsorship pay totaling $176,000. The program tier are as follows: Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $3,500 per appearance; 4-10 bouts get $5,000; 11-15 bouts earn $10,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $15,000; and 21 bouts and more get $20,000. Additionally, champions earn $40,000 while title challengers get $30,000. Also, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials
