Thursday May 12, 2016— UFC 198 will take place at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. Silva was slated to fight Uriah Hall on Saturday’s UFC 198 main card but Silva was forced off of the card after experiencing abdominal pain.
UFC released a statement on Silva regarding his recovery after surgery:
Earlier this week, medical personnel determined that Anderson Silva was suffering from inflammation of the gallbladder, a serious ailment that forced him off the UFC 198 card. As a result of the condition, Silva had successful, minimally invasive surgery in Brazil today to remove the gallbladder. He is now resting comfortably following the procedure.
The recovery period following the surgery is estimated at 4-6 weeks and Silva will be reexamined by doctors before being cleared to return to training.
Silva thanks all of his fans around the world for their support and words of encouragement during this time.
Due to these circumstances Hall has also been forced off the card per the UFC statement on Tuesday May 10:
The homecoming fight of Anderson Silva in Curitiba will not be taking place this weekend, as the former middleweight champion has been forced off Saturday’s UFC 198 card due to an illness.
A replacement will not be brought in to fight Silva’s opponent, Uriah Hall, and the UFC 198 card will proceed with 12 bouts. Moving to the main card is the welterweight bout between Warlley Alves and Bryan Barberena.
