ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Sunday, May 31, 2020, protests in Albuquerque, NM turned violent overnight over the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd. Chaos erupted and Police in riot gear were showing up to try to keep the peace. Protesters started fires in the middle of Central and 3rd Street and they also smashed out the windows of nearby businesses.
UFC star Jon Jones stepped in to confiscate two spray cans on the streets of downtown Albuquerque, NM. In a video he posted on his Instagram account you can watch it all unfold in the video below. The video was accompanied by an angry caption questioning their motives.
Jones states: “Is this shit even about George Floyd anymore?!? Why the fuck are you, punk-ass teenagers, destroying our city!?? as a young black man trust me I’m frustrated as well. But this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse. If you really got love for the 505, protect your shit. All you old heads need to speak up, call your family members, and tell them to come home tonight.”
You can see the images below where Jones went up to the masked men taking away their spray cans. Despite his dispute with the UFC and President Dana White regarding his future with the company, he still found time to stop some vandalism on Sunday night (5/31/2020).
