A lightweight clash between veteran future UFC Hall of Fame inductees, Donald Cerrone, and Joe Lauzon is currently targeted to feature at a UFC Fight Night 208 event on April 30. At the time of publication, an official headliner or location for the event has yet to be determined by the organization.

Set for his first outing at the lightweight since May 2019, Cerrone, a former lightweight title challenger under both the WEC and UFC banners, is winless in his last six, most recently suffering a first round knockout loss to Alex Morono at the welterweight limit back in May at UFC Vegas 26.

For Lauzon, the veteran Massachusetts native, snapped a three-fight losing run back in October 2019 in his native land at UFC Fight Night Boston, stopping Jonathan Pearce with first round strikes. MMA Junkie reporter, Nolan King was first to report the news of Cerrone’s lightweight return against Lauzon.

Prior to his knockout defeat against Morono, Denver veteran, Cerrone battled to an eventual official ‘No Contest’ against Niko Price. In 2020, Cerrone suffered a rematch decision defeat against Anthony Pettis, after he suffered a UFC 246 40-second knockout loss against former two-division champion, Conor McGregor.

In 2019, the former Jackson-Wink MMA staple went 0-2, suffering a first round knockout defeat to Justin Gaethje, and fellow former interim titleholder, Tony Ferguson – the latter of which in a second round doctor’s stoppage TKO.

His most recent victory came via a unanimous decision win over Al Iaquinta in a UFC Fight Night Ottawa win back in May 2019, following a patented January high kick knockout success against Alexander Hernandez. That run seen Cerrone amass three straight wins, following an armbar stoppage against promotional alum, Mike Perry.

During his lengthy Octagon tenure, Cerrone has defeated the likes of Dennis Siver, Jeremy Stephnes, Melvin Guillard, Evan Dunham, Edson Barboza, Jim Miller, Eddie Alvarez, Myles Jury, Benson Henderson, Rick Story, Matt Brown, and current lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira.

Renowned grappling specialist, Lauzon is set for his whopping forty fourth professional mixed martial arts walk, and his staggering twenty seventh under the UFC’s banner.

The proud owner of a total 17 career submission wins, Brockton favorite, Lauzon has landed wins over Jens Pulver, Jeremy Stephens, Melvin Guillard, Jamie Varner, Michael Chiesa, Takanori Gomi, Diego Sanchez during his time with the UFC – which began back in 2006.
