15,000 Capacity Crowd Set for OKTAGON 55 This Saturday in Stuttgart Debut

OKTAGON MMA have sold out arenas all across Germany over the past two years and this Saturday, March 23, will be no different! Europe’s leading promotion touches down in Stuttgart for the very first time with a fight card packed full of entertaining bouts. In an exciting addition to the weekend, a special OKTAGON 56 press conference will take place with the stars of the Birmingham card including Akonne Wanliss, Sahil Siraj, Shem Rock, Stefano Catacoli, Denis Frimpong, Callum Mullen and more taking to the microphone on the OKTAGON UK & Ireland YouTube channel during Friday afternoon.

OKTAGON 55 showcases a host of German talent including the triumphant return from injury of a local hero. This event will be broadcast live on OKTAGON.TV internationally as well as worldwide on the global platform, DAZN, in all markets except from CZ/SK/DE. Fans in the UK/Ireland can tune in on Channel 4 and RMC Sport/DAZN will broadcast the event for viewers in France. The action begins at 5pm GMT/6pm CET/1pm ET/10am CT.

In the welterweight main event, fan-favourite, Christian Jungwirth (14-8), steps back into action for the first time since September against Robert Pukač (16-12-1) in a rematch from two years ago. During that contest, the Slovakian quit on the stool at the end of the second round, resulting in an anticlimactic conclusion. Since then, Pukač has changed camps which has breathed fresh life into his career and Jungwirth has risen to become one of OKTAGON MMA’s biggest stars. ‘The Kelt’ could not wish for a better comeback in front of his hometown crowd, who will provide an unbelievable atmosphere to spur on their own in a new chapter of his story.

The man known as ‘Ironside’, Alexander Poppeck (16-5), collides with UFC veteran, Jeremy Kimball (19-10), during the light heavyweight co-headliner. Poppeck came up short in an interim title bout last June, which signalled his first loss in the organisation, and has been away honing his craft for the past year. He now hopes to remind the division of the force he can be opposite ‘Grizzly’, who wants to make a statement of his own in a new weight class. Anything could happen when these two throw down on Saturday night!

Top Hungarian fighter, Máté Kertész (14-7, 1NC), takes on all-action fighter, Niklas Stolze (13-6), at welterweight. The division really rose to prominence over the past year due to the €1 million Tipsport Gamechanger tournament and with the title currently vacant, the opportunity is there for anyone to rapidly climb the rankings. Stolze had an impressive return to OKTAGON MMA last year by knocking out Kalašnik in the first round and Kertész wants to show his best days are still ahead of him. The winner here could put themselves in the title picture over the coming months.

In other feature bouts, OKTAGON Challenge Germany participant, Jaime Cordero (4-2), clashes with fellow finisher, Dominic Schober (13-11), in a middleweight contest that promises a spectacular stoppage. Furthermore, dangerous striker, Karol Ryšavý (13-6), meets top German prospect, Arijan Topallaj (6-0-1), at lightweight in an intriguing matchup.

Elsewhere on the card, knockout artist, Jakub Bahník (9-4, 1NC), goes against promotional newcomer, Wahid Najand (7-2), in a 74kg/163lbs catchweight bout. It is also a big night for the women in Stuttgart as Lucia Szabová (6-0) returns to MMA for the first time in three years after giving birth to her daughter and former strawweight title challenger, Jacinta Austin (5-2), faces Invicta FC and Contender Series veteran, Karolina Wójcik (11-4).
