Even though hometown hero Abdulla Alyaqoob took the 68-kilogram catchweight matchup on less than 18 hours’ notice, he delivered an all-around performance opposite Kurdish standout Ramyar Luqman on the main card of BRAVE CF 48: ARABIAN NIGHT held at the fabled Arad Fort in Bahrain on Thursday, March 18.
Opening up the contest by taking the action right to Luqman, Alyaqoob pounced on his opponent with a series of swinging punches and then planted him on the mat courtesy of a quick takedown.
Though Luqman found his rhythm in the early goings of the second round as he torched his counterpart in the stand-up exchanges, Alyaqoob managed to regain the momentum by pushing for three uncontested takedowns.
On the canvas, Alyaqoob continuously pummeled Luqman with thudding strikes and tried to bring the bout to a close with a rear-naked choke in the third and final frame.
With Alyaqoob seemingly pulling away with the win, the Kurdish upstart had his second wind and punctuated the marquee match-up by rattling the Bahraini with a wild sequence of punching combinations.
However, it was too late for Luqman as Alyaqoob got the three cageside judges’ nod for a unanimous decision with the scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
Alyaqoob took his first win as a pro, while Luqman dropped to a 1-1 standing in a losing -but-gallant effort
