Al-Selwady wants to ‘inspire next generation’ with win at Brave 23

Since becoming the second Jordanian fighter to win a Brave world title, Lightweight champion Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady has been focused on giving back to the sport. As he takes on dangerous striker Luan Santiago at Brave 23, the focus is also on inspiring kids and up and coming fighters.

Undefeated in his Brave career, “The Pride of Palestine” impressed in his last outing, knocking out veteran Lucas “Mineiro” in the first round to claim the Lightweight belt. For him, the title is more than just a shiny belt, but also a responsibility, which he gladly accepts and embraces.

“The reason why I carry this belt around is that, for me, this is more than a title, it’s a responsibility. There are a lot of eyes on me right now and I want to show people and show the little kids that anything is possible”.

For Al-Selwady, inspiring is more than showing around a belt. He has an anti-bullying program, which he started three years ago, long before he was one of the world’s best, and now uses his standing in the MMA world to promote awareness to the importance of the sport in kids’ lives.

“My Anti-Bullying program has found a lot of success since I started it about 3 years ago, I was always against bullies since I was a kid I was strong but always tried to use my strength to defend my friends. As I grew older, I started to find passion in helping kids get stronger and more confident in themselves. I really enjoy watching them grow into better and stronger kids!”.

Brave 23 takes place in Amman, Jordan, on April 19th. The main event will see local hero and Welterweight champion Jarrah Al-Selawe defend his title against undefeated Abdoul Abdouraguimov. In the co-main event, Eldar Eldarov and Mounir Lazzez meet for the inaugural Super Lightweight championship, while Al-Selwady takes on Santiago in the third most important bout of the evening.
