Two, one-time light heavyweight title challengers clash at UFC Fight Night Nebraska on April 25th. as Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith meets with Brazilian veteran, Glover Teixeira. Texas native Smith, recently returned to winning ways after his championship bout loss to Jon Jones, as he managed a fourth-round rear-naked choke triumph over Alexander Gustafsson. Minas Gerais born Teixiera has experienced an impressive surge recently, lodging wins over Karl Roberson, Ion Cutelaba, and Nikita Krylov.
The popular submission-specialist Smith has been hugely-impressive since his move from 185-pounds back in June of 2018. The 31-year-old has only dropped a defeat to the aforementioned Jones, albeit in a rather one-sided fashion, but has managed victories over former division best, ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans, Maurício ‘Shogun’ Rua, and Volkan Oezdemir – all three wins coming via finishes.
Current form for Teixeira has been unseen since his 2014 title siege against the previously noted, Jones, and his 2016 quest for number-one contender status. The 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt will enjoy his sixth year under the promotion’s banner this annum – and a victory over someone with caliber as high as Smith undeniably forces the Brazilian back into championship contention.
UFC Fight Night Nebraska takes place on April 25th. with a venue yet to be announced by the promotion. The pairing of Smith and Teixeira is expected to serve as the event’s headliner.
