Bellator London Shared Between Sky Sports & Channel 5

Bellator have announced via a press release that the high anticipated London card which takes place on Saturday, June 22, from The SSE Arena, Wembley. Featuring names like Gegard Mousasi, Rafael Lovato Jr, Paul Daley & James Gallagher will divide their broadcast across 3 different platforms.   The Bellator App , Sky Sports & then Channel 5.  I don’t think I have ever witnessed a card split up like this before and going by some of the feedback on social media I don’t believe this is the correct way to sell your product to the European fight fans. Below are some of the details we know so far.

The Main Card which will be broadcast on Channel 5 & will see fights.   Gegard Mousasi & Rafael Lovato Jr will fight for the middleweight world title.  Also Joining them on Channel 5 is a catchweight bout between Aaron Chalmers and Fred Freeman, as well as a light heavyweight bout between Melvin Manhoef and Kent Kauppinen.

The sky sports portion of the card will have only two fights.  England’s Paul Daley will face Brazils Erick Silva at Welterweight & Irelands James Gallagher will take on Jeremiah Labiano.  With only two fights on this portion of the card, it’s highly likely that we could see the smallest number of viewers for any of these 4 men.

The glaring mistake I feel that has been made is the failure to include Fabian Edwards & Mike Shipman on the televised portion of this card. both these men bring a following in the UK market and both have called to fight each other giving viewers an all English fight to call themselves the best the UK has.
