Sam ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ Shewmaker will continue to make history this coming weekend at BKFC 4: USA vs. Mexico, in Cancun. Having already competed in the first three events, he will now help the promotion go international, as he takes on Mexican native, Jaime Arévalo.
2-1 in his professional BKB career, Shewmaker came up short in his last bout against now champion, Arnold Adams in the heavyweight tournament finals. Having learned a lot from his winning and losing experiences in 2018, ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ is ready to return and make a statement, one similar to his knockout of Eric Prindle at BKFC 1.
FightBook MMA spoke with power puncher, Shewmaker ahead of his up-and-coming bare knuckle boxing fight, and gold is the goal for 2019.
Originally, FightBook MMA was informed Shewmaker would fight Joel Paredes. More recently, the heavyweight tournament finalist tells us his opponent switched, and he would now fight Jaime Arévalo on February 2nd. With the late replacement, Sam tells us:
“Prior to this fight I had not heard of my opponent (Arévalo)”, but seems unbothered by a late change in opponent, focused on making an impact. “My statement will be a lot like BKFC 1. I’m coming for the highlight reel KO!!”
Having competed on Bare Knuckle FC’s first three shows, now heading into their fourth on PPV, Shewmaker learned a lot in 2018, and looks to build on that as the new year has begun.
“Experience is something you can always take with you and build on. That is what I took from BKFC in 18’.” In addition, “It has been such an honor and a privilege to be on every BKFC card so far. I would love to help usher in this new era of combat sports and to help it to grow!!”
Now just days away from the BKFC’s first international venture, ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ has one goal in mind for this year, and it starts with a big win this coming weekend.
Keeping it short, sweet and dangerous, Sam tells FightBook MMA, “Be the BKFC world champ!!!”
