Pacquiao will be challenging Yordenis Ugas to reclaim his as the WBA (Super) welterweight champion. The match will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 21.
Pacquiao is the only boxer in history to win twelve major world titles in eight different weight divisions. In July 2019, Pacquiao became the oldest welterweight world champion in history after defeating Keith Thurman. Though he lost the title due to inactivity, this will be Pacquiao first fight since 2019.
Pacquiao was originally due to fight against Errol Spence Jr, but Spence Jr had to pull out due to an eye injury. Yordenis Ugas was originally meant to be the co-main event, defending a challenge from Fabian Maidana.
Pacquiao (62-7-2)has nearly triple the wins on his boxing record compared to Ugas (26-4-0).
“I’m so excited for this championship fight and I don’t care if I’m the challenger or champion coming into it. We’ll see who is the champion after August 21,” said Pacquiao.
“I have prepared to face the best so that I can become the best. This is going to be a great fight for all the fans. I’m planning on leaving everything in the ring. I can guarantee an amazing fight,” said Ugas.
